Arthur M. Doweyko has a background in science, and it shows throughout the pages of Algorithm. Readers will feel like you're learning something; playing with the big kids on an adventure of a a lifetime, and it continues throughout the story. Readers will find themselves lost in a world of scientific exploration with a fantasy kicker. You'll be hooked. On the edge of your seat. Lost in the story.
The characters in Doweyko's world are interesting, even the minor characters that are introduced along the way. There's a good deal of character building here, and it begins within the first pages for the main protagonist and his team. In fact, the main characters grow significantly around the story which adds another element of class to this already great novel.
I particularly loved the sense of intrigue I felt when reading this story. Readers will be transported to a world of scientific discovery, absorbing each clue as the story moves forward. That said, for lovers of any genre other than science fiction, perhaps the hard science in this novel will feel a little overwhelming, however there is much to be learned for those willing to give it a go.
Doweyko's novel flows. His characters come to life. What else can I tell you other than I really enjoyed this book? Topped off with space travel and alien life, Algorithm is one for lovers of Sci-Fi, or science in general.
The main characters are united by bizarre circumstance and then grow closer together as they struggle to understand what's happening and to stay alive.
The story is exciting, with plenty of twists to keep you on the edge, wondering if you really know what's happening. The author challenges us to think about our true beginnings and perhaps about our end.
I think Arthur Doweyko is on a par with A C Clarke (Childhood's End) and particularly Robert J Sawyer (I recommend all of his stories) and hope he will continue to produce stories to the same high standard. PB
