I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Alice and the Hatter is definitely a dirty fairy-tale from the start with Johnny's playboy antics with a much younger runway model.
Nonetheless this story is a great rendition of the fairy-tale.
~Johnny Hatter is the male lead, the owner of Mad Mode of whom he is the creative head for the fashions he puts out. He is the rich playboy at forty-six has become stale in his creativeness. He IS the Mad Hatter although he designs fashions not just hats.
~Alice Carroll (or she prefers to be called Liss as no one except her departed mother had called her Alice) is recently graduated with her degree and opening her own shop where she'll continue to create her own designs for the local clientele.
~Andrew Weedman (Weed) is one of Johnny's best friends from college and is the eccentric 'fabulous' comedic relief lovable character which deserves his own story in my opinion.
~Nathan is Johnny's other best friend who is the organized, head on straight character.. except for when it comes to being on time.
~Victoria is Johnny's ex and is seen as the Wicked Queen.
~Chester is Victoria's lackey and is seen as the Cheshire Cat.
The budding relationship between Johnny and Liss besides the major age difference has them on a roller coaster of emotional rides and will keep you reading until the end. At least it did for me.
This retelling joins the few others I have read as one of my favorites and I think I will be rereading it soon.
Alice, known to her family and friends as Liss, and Johnny Hatter are an awesome duo: full of life from the beginning, and sparking with creativity, challenge, and passion each moment they’re together. They are the type of people who seem to inspire others to rise to more than they thought they were capable of becoming on their own. Together, Liss and Johnny are a force to be reckoned with—as soon as they figure a few things out.
There’s a ton of heart in this story, and not just from the Jack of Hearts. There are sweet, beautiful hearts like Liss, her Dad, and Weed (whose almost larger-than-life persona is fabulous). But there are also the catty, black-hearted villains we’ve simply got to have in this story. Such as the Queen of Hearts, known as Victoria, who deserves to have HER head removed. She always has some vile henchmen/women nearby willing to do her bidding for the right price. The most astounding heart in the story, though, is that of Johnny Hatter’s. We watch him undergo such a dramatic and genuine change all because of love. Because, let’s face it. What makes a human being do such a vibrant 180 as discovering that nothing means more to him than the person he loves?
So, great characters, well-written engaging plot, and passionate love story all add up to a can’t-miss read. You’ll find plenty of steamy heat in the bedroom scenes and a small amount of mature language. Mostly you’ll find characters you want to read more about in a great story.
Meet Johnny Hatter, owner, designer and 'wild man' image- maker for Mad Mode. Crucial to the business we meet Nathan Hare ( always late and checking the clock) and the intoxicating and flamboyant 'Weed' Andrew Weedman ( he almost stole the show for this reader, I loved him ! )
Along comes.... Alice Carroll. Welcome to the Wonderland these witty authors have delivered. So many references( some almost hidden) to the original Alice stories they will surround the reader with childhood memories of this curious tale. Oh... but be warned, this is not for the kiddies, much too steamy as young Alice and much older Johnny heat up your e-reader.
' "I'm a man that usually gets what he wants." Alice lifted her chin as a slow smile spread over her lips, Game on.'
A great read offering humour, treachery and plenty of steam to keep the reader's attention. Romance with a HEA , stand-alone.
I voluntarily received and read an ARC of this book and really enjoyed it. So many memories came flooding back of bedtime reads with grandparents and my beautiful Mum and the way my Dad would give the strange characters such funny voices. Read and enjoy for yourselves.
