Alice Walters feels blessed by diverse experiences working with and learning from children of all ages for over thirty years. Most of Alice's professional development came from her students and colleagues in the urban school district where she served for 10 years before retiring. Working with students who faced poverty, neglect, abuse and death on a daily basis, taught her far more than any college course or professional workshop. Alice came to realize that not only can all children (and adults) learn, they can also teach. She credits her pupils and colleagues with teaching her that curriculum and caring can cohabit in a classroom. Alice’s most memorable experiences are ones when her neediest students were empowered to teach and share with their classmates, and with her.
