Product Description

Lt. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the lone survivor when her crippled spaceship crash lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet's maximum security prison. Ripley's fears that an Alien was aboard her craft are confirmed when the mutilated bodies of ex-cons begin to mount. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley must lead the men into battle against the terrifying creature. And soon she discovers a horrifying fact about her link with the Alien, a realization that may compel Ripley to try destroying not only the horrific creature but herself as well.

Alien <3

Alien <3
The first three movies of the Alien franchise are directed by some of the best directors in the business. Ridley Scott, James Cameron, and now David Fincher, who all bring their own kind of strengths to the table. In Alien, it was minimalism and letting the suspense build without showing the aliens too much. Letting the tension build up and the reveal was shocking, and the story was good enough. Aliens, it's all about creature FX and action, which is right up James Cameron's alley and he did an exceptional job. So then to come to Fincher, who has strengths but none quite as obvious as the previous two as it regards the Alien movies.Alien 3 is a good movie, but it's not great. It's a typical case of where the quality suffers because of the films before it, otherwise this may as well have been another classic movie. Ripley is stuck in an all-male prison full of mostly spiritual dudes who are settled into their lives in prison. The leader of them, attempts to constantly use his religion to both intimidate and instill confidence in those around him. As the story progresses, there are many attempts to flesh out the lore of the Alien universe. Ripley is faced with something we haven't seen before, and the Alien has begun to evolve yet again into a new form we have not yet seen. The prisoners are reluctant to fight at first, but once the plan starts to come together after they start losing some of their own, the movie takes off.I can't say the Director's Cut is any better than the theatrical, but this movie has some great shots and moments that are often used when referencing this series. It definitely pales in comparison to the first two films, but the last 30 minutes or so are action packed unlike the previous films. I particularly love the way they trap the alien at the end, as it seems to have a few references to Star Wars lore with how the situation is shot/handled. Overall, it's a good Blu-ray release for the collection and to complete the Alien franchise on my shelf. This did not come with a digital copy.

I love all of the alien movies

I always thought the third Alien movie was the weakest; it's apparent that edited footage added in this version should have been left in.

I found the Alien3 SE to be more relatable and the social structure in the prison to be very understandable, whereas before the characters seemed ham-handedly shoved together with no organic development of conflicts and resolutions. In this sense, it reminded me a lot of Jim Cameron's "The Abyss" theatrical release versus the far superior Director's Cut... the story and characters come together (and fall apart) in a far more richly-done story.

A spoiler that isn't really a spoiler, just a heads-up: the origin of the Alien's spread on the prison/mining planet is changed in a significant manner. Watch for it!

WITH NO SPOILERS, I CAN SAY THE IS A FINE ADDITION TO THE SERIES. MANY REVIEWS BECAME DISAPPOINTED ☹️ AS THERE WAS NOT NONE STOP ✋ ACTION, EVERY SECOND , THAT ALIENS HAD. THIS IS A MUCH MORE COGNITIVE FILM AND A DEEPER EXPLORATION OF RIPLEY AND HER INTERNAL EMOTIONS AND FEELING. CHARLES DANCE, AND ABOVE ALL CHARLES S . DUTTON,
STOLE THE SHOW. THESE OTHER SUPPORTING ACTORS, THE INMATES WERE SUPERB.💥⭐️ THIS IS A FINE INTERPRETATION OF THE THIRD FILM IN THE SERIES, VERY STRONG 👍. MANY REVIEWERS NEEDED THEIR ACTION SHOT EVERY SECOND AS IN ALIENS. THIS WAS A MORE COGNITIVE, THINKING PERSON’S MOVIE . OF COURSE THERE IS STILL MORE ACTION THAN IS NECESSARY, BUT EXPLORES RIPLEY AND HER PERSONALITY AND HOW SHE CAME TO BECOME INVOLVED IN THIS BIG MESS. CHARLES DANCE AS THE DOCTOR IS MAGNIFICENT AND CHARLES S. DUTTON, RAN AWAY WITH THE ENTIRE PRODUCTION. YOU MIGHT ENJOY THE SEQUEL TO NUMBER THREE, AS THERE IS MUCH MORE ACTION AND FINALITY COMES TO THE FOUR MOVIES. THE VENUE IN OUR FILM TAKES PLACE ON A SUPER MAX PRISON FACILITY DEEP IN SPACE WHERE RIPLEY AND HER SHIP WAS DRIFTING TOWARDS AND WAS AWAITING PASSAGE BACK TO EARTH. A LITTLE THINKING CAN BE GOOD FOR THE LITTLE GREY CELLS, MON AMI, AS MSSR. HERCULES 👍 POIROT SAYS. BUT, THIS HAS ITS VISCERAL MOMENTS ALSO.

The Assembly Cut, or special edition, version of Alien 3 is the one to watch. It provides better motivation for characters, adds extra dimensions to the film, and is a superior version.

That said, Alien 3 is still a very depressing film. Looks great, but nothing good happens to these prisoners, and there is little joviality in the film. I like the slow burn, but it is the antithesis of Aliens. No guns, slow methodical pacing, no soldiers. it's really a character study, with some religion, survivor remorse sprinkled in.

The mood is a throwback to the 1st film but with less suspense or horror. It's still a very good film, but don't expect action. This is probably the last good Alien film. 4th was a silly enjoyable action flick but superficial. AVPs were the same and unremarkable. Prometheus and Covenant had the stupidest space people, and CGI action.

I can't remember how it came to be but at some point in time I saw either a behind the scenes or documentary of Alien 3. From what I understand, production wise, this movie was a train wreck. It's kind of unfortunate because I think the original concept of Alien is definitely worthy of a trilogy of movies but I believe it actually started going wrong with the 2nd movie, despite the fact I really enjoy that one.

What I mean is, I believe the queen alien reveal should've been reserved for the 3rd movie. Instead what we get is a version of the xenomorph that's part alien and part dog. It still very much resembles the original xenomorph but seems to favor crawling on all fours instead of the more humanoid xenomorphs from the previous film that actually stood up on their hind legs. It's somewhat of a subtile difference but you can tell it was intentional and Ripley even has a line in the movie where she says it's different than the ones she saw before.

Anyways, the main problem with this movie is the story. It was just a bad script, there's no nice way of putting it. In my opinion though, it's somewhat saved by having some great actors in the film. Saved about as much as possible given what they had to work with. I think the worst aspect of the script is, spoilers of course, all the characters from the previous film die including Ripley. While I agree it was a good idea to give the Alien movies closure in the 3rd act, I don't think this was the right way of doing it.

The alien/xenomorph concept was such a cool idea. I can't blame anyone for wanting to make more movies. But it's really not worth it if it isn't executed well. Ideally, I believe what they should've done was end the 2nd movie on a cliffhanger where the queen alien was never revealed and in the 3rd movie maybe there would be a final mission to find the source of the aliens or something. And then after that they could crank out the Alien vs. Predator movies or something to keep the narrative interesting.

In the end I don't believe this movie was as bad as even the director claims it to be. It would be hard to follow up a 2nd movie where they pretty much laid out all of the cards prematurely. There was some good acting, a little bit of bad writing and some sad plot twists but it does do what the 3rd movie should've set out to do and give the story closure. Of course this is Hollywood and they couldn't leave it alone so they made a 4th one as well but that's another story....
