Then they took a nose dive and Dell bought them out. Since then they've had a reputation for high price tags and poor quality in the gaming community. The brand almost became a joke. Where you used to see someone on an Alienware and point it out to your friends out of jealousy, it became a joke as in, "Hey look at the sucker that spent a load of cash on an Alienware."
I know Dell has really pushed to phase out their XPS line and make Alienware their focus "High Performance Gaming" line, and I think they may have finally done it.
So, what's in the box? What's in the box?!?! Not Gwenyth Paltro's head, that's for sure. Included is a restore disc, the laptop, manuals/instructions/warnings/etc and a power cord.
It is HEAVY. Not heavy to the point where you can't carry it around in a bag, but for a 14 inch laptop, it's got some heft. However, when you have enough hardware crammed in a laptop that would put most tower PCs to shame, a little extra weight is to be expected.
Furthermore, it is SOLID. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING about this laptop feels cheap. It's solidly constructed, everything fits together snug and firm. They put some serious love into the design and build of this laptop.
Performance-wise it's a 5.9 on the Windows rating. HOWEVER, this is due to the SATA HDD. Windows ratings are not an average, they are strictly the lowest number of all the categories (for those who don't know) all the other categories are 7.8 -7.9. The performance is astounding.Read more ›
* When you open the box it's clear that presentation is high on Alienware's list of priorities. It's like you're opening a Christmas gift sent to you by men in black suits from Area 51. Inside the box everything is carefully padded and boxed up to make sure that your laptop arrives in perfect condition. Documentation even comes in a black portfolio like a dossier.
Laptop Feel & Look
* The laptop has a rugged, somewhat military grade look and feel. Think military meets street racer, because once you plug it in and turn it on you see that there are "ground effects" style lighting built into the cover, keyboard, and track pad. You can turn off these effects if you like, but hey, why would you? They're kinda sexy, if you're into that kind of look.
* The body is thicker than you're probably used to with standard laptops. The bottom half is quite thick, and jam packed with fans to keep the unit from overheating. You need all that space for the optical drive, higher end hardware, and more fans than we've ever seen in one laptop...ever. The laptop runs quiet and cool, so that extra space is very well used. In essence they've taken a desktop computer and smooshed all that extra power down into a laptop sized package.Read more ›
First off, let's shed the notion that this is a gaming laptop. It isn't. There is no numpad and the keys aren't really set up right for a hardcore PC gaming. Don't get me wrong, with a dedicated 2GB GeForce GTX graphics card it will game and game well, but it's not a true gaming machine (unless you're docking it to a second monitor and keyboard). It is, however, a true desktop replacement that embraces its "chunky-base design with uncompromised capability" over the "sleeker aesthetic with less power" of other laptops. The fact that it still embraces Windows 7 over Windows 8 also makes it a bit more useful, at least until Win10 lands.
What I love is the snappy speed.Read more ›

Overall I'm happy with this laptop. It handles my multi-tasking tendencies. The SSD gives it a really quick startup. Battery life is solid. But it's been a mixed plate overall. Read morePublished 19 months ago by RG
This thing is a beast! My son loves it. It weights a ton, but it is so fast and has so much power that it is obvious they packed a lot into it.Published 19 months ago by Eric I.
I received a slightly different model (graphic card is 750M instead of 765M and screen resolution 1920x1080 instead of 1366x768) but I didn't care as it's a fantastic machine and... Read morePublished 20 months ago by AURELIO
