Now he's talking about ancient bloodlines and celestial alignments ... and other things she only believes because of what she's seen him do. He's heading out for revenge against the family who wronged him, and he needs her help. About the author

Kay Camden is equal parts writer, reader, and metalhead, who believes the best stories are love stories and all heroes must have a cool car. She writes twisty plots with smart heroines, haunted heroes, ancient feuds, forbidden love, magic, and revenge. She lives with her husband, two children, and an assortment of four-legged creatures in the middle of the U.S.A. next to the mighty Mississippi River. Other interests include learning the Irish language and listening to a lot of EBM/industrial/synthpop electronica and dark/progressive/hardcore metal the only way those types of music are meant to be played: LOUD.

This is a romance, but for some reason the romantic sparks misfired. I'm not sure why. There is lots of what is supposed to be sexual tension, but it seems to fall flat. Maybe because there is very little description leading up to the fade to black.
And speaking of description, this brings me to another of my pet peeves--not telling us what the people look like for AGES. If the author doesn't give us descriptions, our brain just makes up something, and then when we finally do get a description, and it doesn't match ours, it takes us out of the story while we try to adjust the images.
I also think the pacing started to misfire toward the end. We are being set up for a war that never really happens. It's all too obvious that there will be a sequel, so that war may still be coming, but each book in a series needs to have a climax and resolution. I couldn't really tell where the climax was supposed to be. The big confrontation was over so fast and then I kept expecting something more. Instead we got chapters of exposition and then the book actually ends with a cliff hanger. That, to me, was extremely annoying and unsatisfying.
There are quite a few F-Bombs, but it's not overdone, and they do seem to be in line with the character.
The fact that I'm still giving it 4 stars despite these criticisms says a lot about the strength of the story. It's still very worth reading.
I was not happy with the way the book ended. I am not fond of cliff hangers. The climatic confrontation was more a comedy of errors or a lack of action than the climax to the story. The end of the book had way too many twists and turns with unexpected side characters thrown in. Hopefully, the author will tie up some of the loose ends and give more of the back story so that the story becomes unified.
Overall I enjoyed the book and will be looking for the second one in the series.

The "supernatural" element didnt really kick in until half way through and is still very subtle. The romance between the characters is fairly innocent which makes a nice change. All too often the story is taken over by the characters relationship with each other. Fine if its a romance book but not otherwise!
All in all I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the next installment.
