I ran across the English version of this book quite by accident, and being entranced by the poesie and sensitivity of the prose, I looked up the Spanish version to see if the effect was due to Alina's own writing or the translator's skill My conclusion, Alina is an excellent writer. She draws scenes emotively and delicately and with with almost frightening insight. With that, she is often cryptic, so that one sometimes has to go back and read a previous section to understand what is going on in a later one.
I think the English version is better than the Spanish one in terms of organization, and some things are left out, to good effect. But it is worth while to have both versions on the shelf and look back and forth between them.
