I think the English version is better than the Spanish one in terms of organization, and some things are left out, to good effect. But it is worth while to have both versions on the shelf and look back and forth between them.
I do consider it a "Rare Avis" being the author the daughter of the dictator with the longest tenure in history, (longer than Stalin or Mao), who decided freedom was worth more than living under the shadow of her father.
Many family secrets were uncovered in this book and that is a plus, including the controversy where other member of the Castro family, Alina's aunt Juanita, decided to oppose it's publication because in her opinion the facts about family Patriarc Angel Castro depicted there as a cruel and unscrupulous person was libelous. (Please see Hugh Thomas's book on Cuba who confirms Alina's version).
All together without a doubt these are things to weight in favor of the Five Stars, but at the end and taking every aspect into consideration I went ahead with the Four Star grading to be on an objective reader position.
