Dave is playing and singing as great as he did 30 years ago. Only problem with this CD is the recording quality. It sort of sounds like a very good bootleg recording, especially in regards the singing. But the guitar playing is incredible. Someone tell Rolling Stone magazine, this guy was definitely one of the 100 greatest guitarists in rock history. Now if we could just convince him and Nick Lowe to team up one last time for a Rockpile reunion/tour, life would be great.

Dave Edmunds has been performing and recording since the mid 1960s. He's experienced both cult fandom and pop stardom, as well as years of compulsively recording in the studio for his own amusement. I think he's one of the best guitarists I've ever heard, adept at a wide variety of musical styles.

The Welsh guitarist/singer/producer has long been one of my all-time heroes. and after heart surgery a decade or so ago, he's slowed down a little bit. Fans of his high-powered rock & roll with Rockpile, or his MTV popstar period might be a little surprsed or even disappointed with "Alive & Pickin," but for fans it's a no-brainer.

Edmunds returns to Wales for an intimate solo show, recorded apparently around 2008 (there is no recording date listed). He plays some of his hits ("I Knew the Bride" "Girls Talk," "I Hear You Knockin'"),and also shows that he's been working on his jazz and country fingerpicking on the guitar, ala Chet Atkins & Les Paul. The songs are a nice mixture of the familiar, the obscure and the surprising, and Edmunds pulls it off with great flair. His vocal skills and instrumental chops are very much intact. A very impressive recording.

I was overjoyed to find something relatively new by Dave Edmunds. I have been a fan ever since I first heard "I Hear You Knockin'", his biggest hit and signature song.
Mr. Edmunds is one of the all-time underrated and under-appreciated rock guitarists of our time. This collection shows off Dave solo, just him and his guitar, and is sometimes astounding! His playing is effortless and comfortable, and despite the fact that I don't always like his choice of material, I have listened to this CD 3-4 times already, and love it. If you are new to Dave Edmunds or are an old fan, buy this! You couldn't possibly be disappointed!

Despite the cover art, this is all acoustic. Edmunds shows off his guitar skills. If not familiar with Edmunds you're better getting a compilation of earlier work. Edmunds is on my list of ten artists I'd have to have on a desert island. Check out all his stuff, each album covers a wide range. No one covers a song better. His "Oh What A Thrill" is the only Chuck Berry that is better than the original.
