Godsend for cold Chicago winter!
on November 28, 2011
Born and raised in Chicago, so I know cold. These gloves are quite honestly the best I've ever owned. They are pretty thick and bulky- when I shove them in my coat pockets, they take up the whole pocket and I have little room for keys or my cell or anything. But so warm! And so easy to convert between mittens and gloves, and to slip the thumb on and off. The velcro flap on the back is great at keeping the mitten part out of your way. And the padding on the palm makes it super comfortable to grip things.
I mainly bought these because they have the removable thumb, which most convertible mittens are lacking, and which is completely necessary for texting on a smart phone. I will say that when worn thumbless for a long time it gets uncomfortable. I commute by bus, and its about a 45 minute ride during rush hour. When wearing these gloves with the thumb tips off for that long so I can play games on my touch-screen phone, they start to get very itchy around the thumbs. They're perfectly comfortable if you aren't using your thumbs for anything, but when you're bending your thumbs and moving them around the screen they start to chafe against the fabric.
Honestly, that's a very small complaint compared to how warm and comfortable these gloves are. I'd recommend them to anyone who lives in a cold climate and needs to be wearing gloves, but still wants use of their fingers and thumbs.
