From the Inside Flap

Just Imagine... It's 2:17 AM.

You've only slept 4 hours out of the past 48. You have a blinding headache that would make a migraine seem like a pleasant distraction. On top of that, the handful of aspirin you took for it 30 minutes ago is making your stomach churn in a very unpleasant way.

Now, just imagine that even with all of that making your life a living hell, it doesn't end there. Instead of being at home where you can suffer in private, you are on the opposite side of town, standing smack dab in the middle of a disgustingly brutal crime scene--the third in as many days.

Cops and evidence techs are watching with jaded expressions as you literally channel the final moments of the murder victim's life through your own mind and body, right before their eyes.

The horror... The fear... The pain...

You see and feel it all, as if your own isn't already enough...

And, by the way, even though the cops asked you to be here, most of them think you belong in an institution, specifically one that is outfitted with padded walls.

Yeah, I know... It sounds like some kind of nightmare, doesn't it? Well, welcome to my world. Be glad you aren't me because this curse that is my life doesn't stop at being a nightmare.

No. It is all too real...

My name is Rowan Gant, and I'm the unofficial Witch for the Greater Saint Louis Major Case Squad.

I'd quit the job, but the dead won't let me...

All Acts of Pleasure is book two in the Miranda trilogy and book seven in the RGI (Rowan Gant Investigator) series. The stage was set for us in Love Is the Bond and events already were spiraling out of control and into a macabre horror filled ride into the mind of a sadistic serial killer. The story starts out with Rowan's wife Felicity being arrested for a string of S/M style ritual killings. This puts a huge strain on Rowan's relationship with Ben as he's the one who came bearing the arrest and search warrants. After having his life literally turned upside down, it is up to Rowan to find out who ore what is driving this killer. The storyline unfolds quickly with him in a rush against the clock to save Felicity from not only being convicted, but from losing her own sanity.

This installment poses questions of whether or not Ben and Rowan be able to mend their relationship enough to save Felicity in time? Is the serial killer being controlled by outside paranormal forces greater than Rowan has experienced before?

Again, this was another book that I devoured in a day. Mr. Sellars grabs you from the word go and it doesn't let go of you. I am just glad I had a copy of The End of Desire here or I would have probably been pulling my hair out! I really enjoy the whole Voodoo ritualistic aspect to the story, even though the killings are a bit over the top for me, I found that as always the other elements really held it together and kept my interest.

Summary:

All Acts of Pleasure is the second entry into the Felicity Trilogy and the Seventh book in the Rowan Gant Investigation series by M. R. Sellars.

Synopsis:

The book begins with the arrest of Felicity O'Brian, wife of title character Rowan Gant, on suspicion of multiple horrific murders. Although her husband remains faithfully convinced of her innocence, Felicity herself begins to doubt both her innocence an her sanity as circumstantial and forensic evidenice piles up against her. Meanwhile, Rowan Gant must contend with the betrayal he feels at having his best friend, Detective Ben Storm, involved in Felicities arrest, and how to deal with his wife's escallating detachment.

The book comes to it's thrilling climax when, soon after Felicity is released after the discovery of mysterious evidence, is once again etherally hijacked by Miranda, the mysterious Lwa at the center of the murders and the mystery.

What follows is a decent into madness as Felicity begins to redouble her doubt in her own sanity, as Rowan tries to offer support to Felicity, patch up faltering friendship with Benjamin Storm, and deal with in-laws who believe Rowan to be a sinister influence leading their daughter into murder and insanity.

Review:

Seven is one of the most magickal numbers, and M. R. Sellars doesn't disappoint his fans with this seventh entry into the Rowan Gant Investigation series. All Acts of Pleasure overflows with the same urgent, real-time flow of the previous books in the series, while also deviating from structure of previous books in the series.

While the supernatural is still an ever-present influence for the St.

This is the strongest of the Rowan Gant offerings so far. Like many of the other characters in the book, I wanted to reach through the pages and shake some sense into the main character/narrator, Rowan. But I also understood what caused him to behave as he did, and the glimpses of self-awareness (and ensuing self-loathing) were remarkably believable. Grrrr, it's tough to write about my favorite parts of the book without giving away spoilers. There were definitely a couple of out loud "OMG!" exclamations as I read, taking in some fascinating plot twists. I can barely wait for the final installment of the trilogy, and fervantly hope that's not the end of the series.

For those readers who have been put off by the husband and wife characters' practice of their Craft, there is little of that here. For those readers who may be disappointed there isn't enough magick, don't worry...there's plenty of ookie-spookie stuff to keep you happy.

Will the endless arguing between Ben and Rowan ever cease? Its getting a bit old to be perfectly honest. That and I agree with other reviewers that this one isn't as good as earlier ones because Rowan is getting more emotionally colicky. BUT M.R. Sellars still has my attention and my money as I've already preordered the next book in the series in hopes of better writing.

I have just reread all of his books and I'm blown away again. He has the hallmark of a truly great author - I care about his characters. I was almost in tears when Felicity went to jail and the hospital. I highly recommend this book and all the others that come before.

I'm with the other reviewer who liked the earlier novels in the Rowan Gant books. All Acts of Pleasure seems to be a platform for Rowan to be emotional about things and I'd much rather have the story moving along without having to wallow in Rowan's emotional responses all the time, because frankly,it's boring.

This will probably be the last time I shell out for a new Gant novel. Too bad, because the earlier books were interesting and entertaining, both, and I hate abandoning an author. But there's just not much story here--way too much talk, and not much action.
