"ALL THE BROKEN PLACES is not simply an engaging paranormal romance. Peopled with broken characters the reader wants to see mended, it tackles the subjects of mental health and suicide with empathy and grace. I enjoyed heroine Cate's journey to self-discovery and her path to healing, and can't wait to see her battle new demons with her friends. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Eden." ―Rosanna Leo, author of VICE

About the Author
Before becoming an award-winning author, ANISE EDEN wanted to be a wildlife photographer. Unfortunately, a strong aversion to large insects, poisonous snakes, and sharks―along with a cat allergy that might well extend to tigers―limited that career option. Also, Anise always roots for the gazelle, and we all know how that usually turns out. Fortunately, Anise’s voracious hunger for reading kept her occupied, eventually morphing into a passion for writing quirky stories filled with heart, humor, and imagination. Anise loves that through writing, she can live out any adventure she likes without the need for antivenom or antihistamines. Visit her online at AniseEden.com.

This is the story of Cate. An intelligent psychologist with too much grief on her hands and a secret she doesn't understand. After the death of her mother, she's told she needs to seek help for her grief. What she doesn't expect is to come into contact with a group of eclectic individuals who have abilities that shadow her own.
Cate is an empath and absorbs the emotions of those around her. Ben is a sexy doctor who thinks he can help her channel her abilities. Through a series of events Cate discovers that what she deals with on a normal basis, as far as her empathetic tendencies go, isn't something out of the norm after all. And with a little guidance from her new group of friends along with Ben, she takes on the challenges they give her, through a week long "paranormal training boot camp" even if she doesn't always believe in what's happening.
I won't go into too much detail about what happens throughout this story, but I will say this. Ms. Eden is a skillful author who paints words on pages that keep you wanting to turn them. Fluid would be a good way to describe her writing style. There wasn't a moment when I didn't want to stop reading, there wasn't a second I wanted to put this book down. The characters are developed, the world building is spot on, and the love interest is delicious. Normally I'm the type of person who likes my books to have more romance, more kissing, more...you know...but I found I didn't need that at all with ATBP. I was perfectly satisfied with the tension there was and enthralled with the moments given to me.
ATBP is an endearing story and not over the top as far as fantasy goes; something to suck you in but not drown you you with strange creatures and what not. In my opinion, it's the perfect balance of contemporary and paranormal meshed together and I highly recommend it.
This book has an unusual yet interesting narrative and I liked it.
Cate is an empath but she doesn't know how to control her abilities, since her mother's death, she can't bring herself to return to work. Her employer refers her to seek help and therefore she finds herself being placed on a three week programme. The programme is designed to help her understand her gifts and use them safely.
Will she complete the programme?
The book is slow paced and it's told from Cate's perspective. I would have liked Ben's POV primarily because I felt like I was constantly in her head and it became overwhelming to read. I found Cate overbearing throughout, she got under my skin. I understood where she was coming from but her behaviour was immature and irrational. I liked Ben, he stands his ground and fights dirty to ensure she completes the programme. I liked Kai's bubbly personality and Vani made me laugh, when she reads Cate's aura and says she got laid several times the night before lol.
This was an interesting book and I enjoyed.
All The Broken Places, by Anise Eden is the first book in her new series, The Healing Edge. Although this is the first book in a new series, there is no cliffhanger. There was a mention of something to come but that was never developed, but I suspect that it is a series theme and will continue to develop and play out over the next books in this series. As for this individual book, we are not left hanging and Ellie finally finds happiness. This book was different and original and not was expecting at all. It is labelled as Paranormal but it’s not about vampires, shape shifters, or any magical creatures. It’s based on Parapsycology, a science that is not widely accepted. Naturally, fiction is added as is a nice little romance that develops into a nice, feel good story. This is not the type of story I usually read, but I enjoyed it and it did keep my attention so that I was able to read it in one sitting. I really enjoyed the characters, each with their own unique “gift.” Learning about the characters and watching them interact was the best part. I would have enjoyed a little more grittiness, maybe a twist here and there. I felt like it was just sort of plain, but that’s just me. There was a little action at the end but I found it predictable.
It was very well written. The plot and characters were well developed. The story flowed effortlessly. The dialogue was not confusing but I did find it “scripted” in places. There were places that felt like I was reading a text book but I am very interested in Auras, Chakras, etc… so this was OK for me. Overall, it was a nice read and I enjoyed it. It was a pleasant change to the intense books that I usually read. I think it’s more of a young adult book. I am interested in what happens to the characters in future books but I’m honestly not sure if I will continue with the series because of the price. It’s just a higher price that I usually pay for books that have me jumping up and down and while this is a nice, sweet read, it didn’t have me that excited. That said, if this is the type of book you read, I recommend it and this author. It is one of the best written books I’ve read. Her writing was “lyrical,” which is which I why I have to give it 4 stars.
