All of You was simply wonderful! Monzon's characters are so real and well drawn. I loved Jackie's technical ability in a traditionally male career of airplane restoration. Her confidence with men is understandably lacking, so when she sets her sights on Michael deciding to put it all on the line, I was totally cheering her on! And Michael, whew, handsome, once Mister Confidence himself, loses all confidence after his accident and when dealing with Jackie, totally loved the role reversal when she went after him wholeheartedly.
The dual timeline is one Monzon excels at. Her WW2 characters, Alice and Henry, were equally charming and their story full of mystery and intrigue. The way Monzon uses the past to answer some of the problems of the future was outstanding! The ending was so swoon-worthy, it bears reading again. I love in the summary, the line that says it all, "Sometimes the past reaches forward to bring hope to the future". Perfect description of this book!
Monzon is a talented author who will transport readers to another time and place. I loved the trip she took me on! Maybe I should call her my new travel agent :) I've read all three of her books and the Christmas novella, Twelve Days of Snowmen, too. I can not wait to see what gem this entertaining author comes up with next. Sarah Monzon has joined my must-read list of automatic buy Christian authors.
I enjoyed the fun references to other books of the period, and common phrases like "Ducky shinecracker" and "Doll dizzy". It really shows how much time and effort Sarah put into making this story as authentic as possible.
The characters of this story are rich with emotion and feeling. I felt like I made new friends in this book. After I finished the last chapter, I literally gave a sigh of delighted contentment. I'm not going to lie, it took me two days to write my review, because I was rendered speechless. This book is that good!
While this is the second book in the Carrington Family, you can read this as a stand-alone and not feel lost. But honesty, Sarah's writing is so fantastic that you will want to buy both books! I am eagerly anticipating reading more of Sarah's work in the future.
(I purchased a copy of this book. I was not asked to write a review. My thoughts and opinions are my own.)
Ms. Monzon did an excellent job with this story, pulling me in a making me smile from the very first paragraph. Her writing flows smoothly, with witty dialogue and unique characters. I found myself fully invested in these people she created, the ones that burrowed straight into my imagination and heart. I didn’t want to put it down! And even though it frustrated me a time or two (mostly because I had to go back to work), I have to say that she really gave me incentive to read faster, what with the cliffhangers at the end of several chapters! Despite that, I actually really enjoyed the chapters alternating between the past and present, especially as I began to see how they paralleled with one another. And I love how she tied them together in the end!
As aforementioned, I absolutely loved the characters! Jack and Michael, and Alice and Henry. I enjoyed reuniting with Trent and Samantha from Finder’s Keepers and am VERY curious as to which siblings’ story will be next (is it Adam’s? Hint, hint). I know these people aren’t real, but for the entirety of the book, they were to me. Michael became the friend that I so want to help, but don’t know what to say to them. Jackie the friend that’s always there, but who needs a listening ear as well. Alice, the friend you cheer on as she made her place in the world and fought for freedom. And Henry, I just wanted to nudge and tell him to make every moment count. I loved the dialogue that sometimes made me laugh, but also the honest conversations and the wisdom found in them. I really appreciated how Ms. Monzon was able to direct the conversations to God without making the story seem preachy or contrived. She did this especially well with Michael’s character, as he worked through his anger, confusion, regret, and fear. And she writes a great romance, as well. I enjoyed how she wove this sometime subtle, sometimes not, tension through both of the stories, and also how she chose the handle Michael and Jackie’s story, as they both worked through their respective issues. I do kinda wish that there would have been a bit more verbal communication between them, but it worked out well, nonetheless, and I am now anxiously awaiting the next story!
My thanks to the author for my complimentary copy of this book! I was not required to write a positive review and have not been compensated for it in any way. All opinions expressed are my own.
