She had a very humane approach called "reparenting" which was by no means purely verbal because, according to neuropsychology, folks suffering from certain mental disorders are in need of basic skin-to-skin-mother-to-child like affection, which has not been adecquately provided to them by first infancy time, so they get a chance to fulfill that blank. This, of course, is just a part of the whole therapy, which is described in more detail in the book.
Very useful at a time when, highly influenced by certain industries and commercial interests, psychiatrists and other professionals are more likely to say it has no cure.
Her methods included beating the young people that came to her for help with mental illness. They were shut down when a young man who Jaqui thought was schitzofrenic was killed at their "therapy center" by being dunked, bound, into a barhtub of scalding water. This is all documented on the Internet with the name if the young man who died. They were charged with either murder or manslaughter.
I was never harmed physically, but the emotional scars are still with me 40 years later. I can still hear the screams of people being bound and beaten. They had already been run out of Virginia only to continue their rein of terror in California, ending with the death of an innocent young man who's parents trusted Jaqui Schiff.
I believe she is deceased now but I hate to think of any book royalties going to any Schiff family members who took part in the brutality that was "the Schiff Family"
