Product description
When it comes to making sauce, gravy, or other liquidy foods, the saucepan is your go-to. Its high, straight sides lend itself well to frequent stirring or whisking required for making sauces, limiting spilling. And the smaller surface area retains heat well and limits evaporation. As part of our Copper Core collection, this saucepan features a thick copper core, 2 layers of aluminum, and 2 layers of stainless steel. This unique construction makes it ultra-responsive to heat, disperses heat evenly, and creates unmatched, long-lasting durability. For an added touch of elegance, it has a polished surface with a starburst finish and a cutout that shows off that lustrous copper. At 3 quarts in size, it’s just right for making sauces, heating liquids, cooking food in liquids and reheating. To keep your All-Clad looking brand new, we recommend washing your cookware with a soap and sponge instead of the dishwasher. Like all our bonded cookware, it's handmade in the USA at our Canonsburg, PA factory with ultra-durable materials that'll last a lifetime and never go out of style. Handles & handle loops are made in China.

My biggest complaint is that damn handle. It's terrible, it is the worst handle I've seen. Who came up with it? The edges of the handle just dig into your palm and it's freaking painful. Not to mention, it is so thick that even if you have large hands you will find it uncomfortable to hold. I find myself always gripping it at the base where it most hot. What is the point of making a long handle that is impossible to grab? The handle is just uncomfortable even if you just want to hold the pan, but if you want to empty it by pouring than it is even worse because you can't hold on to it properly. Seriously, the person who came up with this design should be fired and prohibited to work in the design forever.
The other complaint, which is minor, is how wide the pan is. Yes, it is nice for the souses and the whatever you cook gets boiling quickly, but it is not that good for the home kitchen stove. Basically, the spacing on of the burners on the stove is such that it is difficult to use this pan with another pan next to it. The problem is only one of them can be centered properly on the burner and the other one will have to be off-center by quite a large margin, sometimes to the point where the edge of the other pot would be on top of the burner. I know this is not particularly All-Clad's fault, but I have pans from another brand and they are narrower and much better in that regard.
The Good: Flat bottoms maximize contact with glass top and traditional ranges for better heat control. The copper core acts almost as well as a solid copper pan on a gas range. The pans and lids are oven safe to higher temperatures than conventional ovens will heat to. The rounded lip makes it easy to pour sauces without spilling or running the sauce down the side of the pan. The handle stays cool. The stainless steel cleans up extremely easy. The stainless steel does not react to tomato or other sensitive sauces.
The Neutral: The frying and sauté pans are stainless instead of non-stick. If you don't follow the traditional method of preheating the pan and oil they will stick. If you follow the proper instruction, they fry and sauté perfectly. The lids get quite hot. This is not surprising as every chef grade pan I have ever used gets a hot lid. If you like to display your cookware the stainless steal and copper spot with certain waters. This is easily solved with your favorite scouring powder.
The Bad: Obviously price, but you will never have to replace these pans so think of it as an investment. The handle on the 3 quart or larger sauce pan is extremely long making the pan quite heavy. This is countered by having an additional small handle on the other side of the pan. The overall weight of all pans is surprisingly heavy. This is not a problem for me, but my senior citizen mother complains about the weight.
Its amazing how just having the right cookware or cutlery can make cooking (which I enjoy) even more pleasurable. This time around, I decided to buy individual pieces, rather than a set and only get the pieces I wanted.
Between Amazon & Williams Sonoma, and two purchase at Marshalls, I have what I wanted. I went all copper core 5 ply over the alternatives. Its more expensive, but as I don't intend to replace these, I also didn't want to say "I wish I had".
This particular piece (a beautiful 4 quart saucepan) - is a wonderful pan. The helping handle makes pouring out contents a little easier as this is a heavy pan.
I love how quick this line of pans heats (even on my awful apartment electric stove).

When I first got it I never used put mine in the dishwasher but nowadays I do and it comes out fine.
I know mine will last forever and I'd recommend getting one.
Every kitchen should have a small pot like this one, either a quick meal for one person or the side dish you need keep warm while serving a crowed, never want miss it out
