Preparing gravies and sauces is a breeze with the All-Clad MC2 3.5-Quart sauce pan. Designed with a classical sloped shape, the pan is unsurpassed in aesthetics and in quality. Attractively designed and incredibly tough, this piece is constructed of three layers of metal; a brushed aluminum alloy beautifully complements the polished, 18/10 stainless steel interior that provides the ideal cooking surface that can even withstand tough use of metal utensils. The long, stay-cool handle is riveted to the side of the pan for extra strength and durability, and helps prevent burns.
The second generation of All-Clad's Master Chef line (MC2), this cookware combines brushed aluminum with stainless-steel accents for a contemporary look. Like All-Clad's other renowned cookware collections, Master Chef provides serious and professional cooks with all the virtues that make All-Clad's worldwide reputation unsurpassed. Key to its high performance is a three-ply, bonded construction. Sandwiched between the brushed aluminum exterior and an 18/10 stainless-steel interior lies a thick core of pure aluminum that spreads heat evenly across the bottoms of pots and pans and all the way up the sides. The interior is highly polished so it's stick- as well as corrosion-resistant. Handles, rivets, and tight-fitting lids are all gleaming stainless steel.
This classic straight-sided 3-1/2-quart saucepan illustrates the Master Chef line's stylish yet practical design. Because the aluminum core extends up the sides, foods cook uniformly in the pan, even though it's 4 inches deep. And because the interior is nonreactive, tomato-based sauces and other acidic foods won't taste metallic. Its polished 18/10 stainless-steel pan and lid handles are riveted for strength and grooved on the top for comfort. The long handle (holed for hanging on a hook or peg) stays cool on the stovetop but won't be harmed by an oven's highest heat. Master Chef cookware carries a lifetime warranty against defects and should be hand washed. --Fred Brack

I did some research and learned that the difference between the Stainless line and the Master Chef line was just the outer layer. The Stainless collection has 3 layers (stainless steel interior, aluminum core, stainless steel exterior) while the Master Chef has 3 layers (stainless steel interior, aluminum core, brushed aluminum exterior). I read that aluminum is actually a better conductor than stainless steel, so many people actually like the performance of the Master Chef collection better. What?! It's cheaper than the Stainless line, and it performs better?! I did some more research and found that many people don't like the Master Chef collection simply for cosmetic reasons. The brushed aluminum is not nearly as attractive as the shiny, mirror-like finish of the Stainless collection.
Well, I had been keeping my eye on several All-Clad pieces for several months, tracking any changes in price...when one day, I saw a deal I couldn't pass up. This pan was on sale for $77.47 (for a "used" one). The description said it was a new product with no cosmetic scratches or dents, but that the packaging may have some damage. Well, for $78, I decided to go for it!
The reviews were right. The finish may not be as attractive as the stainless steel, but it works fabulously! I don't care about appearance nearly as much as I care about the performance--and the performance is all that it claims to be! I love my MC2 All-Clad pan! It cooks so evenly and delivers great results every time--it really does.
So, if you're trying to decide between the Stainless Steel line and the Master Chef 2 line, don't be afraid of MC2. The pros far outweigh the cons, in my book. It's cheaper AND performs better--I'm sold!
I am so happy I ordered this pot despite the review that gave me concern. I actually went on to look at another pot that would have cost twice as much after reading the review. But in the end, I decided I'd check it out for myself instead of believing so strongly in one review.
The brushed aluminum on the outside is perfect. It has a gorgeous silvery sheen; it looks very modern with the shiny handle and top. The pot is very heavy, and I hope that's more for quality than anything else. The handle is uncomfortable, and perhaps All-Clad could rethink this design.
I would purchase this exact same product again.
An aluminum exterior is a better conductor than a stainless exterior -- so the pan will perform better then the more expensive versions with a shiny or polished stainless exterior.
Delivery was as specified and problem free.
