Perfect for weekend brunches, anytime snacks, or delicious desserts, the round-shaped waffles measure 6.5 inches in diameter by 1/2-inch thick. They offer four easy-cut sections and feature traditional pockets for holding melted butter, maple syrup, whipped cream, fresh fruits, and even savory toppings. Simply pour in the batter, close the lid, and turn the knob to choose from seven browning levels according to your taste. The waffle maker’s advanced heating technology ensures consistent baking and browning, while its steam-release system prevents condensation from building-up, which means waffles baked to golden perfection—delicately crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. This waffle maker has a hefty weight to it, like my Ramcon juicer from the 50s. It's made mostly of metal - and you can tell. Only the feet at the bottom and temperature knob appear to be made of plastic. It feels like something that should last for years, though only time will tell. I spent months researching waffle makers before I decided upon the All-Clad Classic Waffle Maker. The biggest reason why: It makes thin, crunchier style waffles. Think Eggo but, of course, better tasting because of homemade batter.
I had to comb through dozens of reviews to uncover this distinction.
If you like thick, soft, bread-like waffles, then you'll probably be happy with either of the All-Clad Square Belgian Waffle Makers. This round one makes for a difference beyond just the shape of the waffle. While a basic recipe for waffle batter yielded a decent result, my preference lends toward using cornmeal batter. I used Jiffy mix the first time; there's even a waffle batter recipe on the side of the box that I'd never noticed. The waffle came out perfectly cooked with no batter sticking to either plates. I set the timer on "4", poured in the batter when the green light came on, and waited for the machine to beep, signifying that the waffle was done. It peeled loose from the plates with no problems. Occasionally, wipe plates and outside with a damp cloth.
I've used this six times so far with consistent results. I'll try to remember to post an update should I experience any problems in the future.
Edit - Used four times since purchase and no longer works. Power is on, unit beeps, turn up heat and nothing, no heat and no waffles. Clearly this is not as sturdy or well made as it seemed. I paid a very premium price believing that I was purchasing a superior product. Well, I should have just kept purchasing the $35 waffle makers - they at least last a few years before they cease to function. All-Clad's warranty says that in order to make a claim I have to box up this very heavy product (no long have the original box four months after purchase) and ship it to them at my expense - shipping will be at least $20 and likely closer to $30 for something this heavy. So...after already paying way too much for a waffle maker, I will have to pay even more to get a functioning product. The warranty should say, ship at my expense and reimburse when they determine it is defective but it does not. I believe in purchasing quality - which often means paying more - but in the case of the All-Clad waffle maker that was a big mistake. No more All-Clad for this household. Finally, the All-Clad web site is down at the moment - not a sign of a dependable company.
