The All-Clad KZ750D42 handheld immersion blender is a great kitchen friend which will make fast work of everyday food-prep tasks. Use the versatile tool for blending smoothies, pureeing large batches of soup, making baby food, mixing cake batter, or whipping up homemade mayonnaise or salad dressings in seconds. It can even be used to quickly chop any type of nuts. The immersion blender provides an easy-grip ergonomic handle, and simple thumb-activated control buttons for one-handed convenience and a beautiful design. You just have to choose between power and turbo settings, with pulse for added control. With its powerful motor and variable speed control dial, the blender takes on small and large batches alike. The immersion blender’s extra-long 9-1/4-inch shaft can reach deep into pots, pitchers, or bowls (no need to dirty extra dishes), and its protective stainless-steel guard around its stainless-steel blade helps prevent splattering. I expected it to be better than the unit I was replacing but I didn't expect it to be great. I was prepared to stand at the stove while blending freshly made cream of mushroom soup. I deployed the All-Clad Immersion blender and was done in a couple heart beats. I was surprised it made such quick work of the soup. I stood there with the All-Clad in one hand because I assumed I would have to give the soup another whirl. I stirred the soup with the other hand, looking for big chunks of mushroom and found nothing but the nice tiny little pieces of mushrooms that I wanted. Power and speed of completing the task - this was a great purchase and I look forward to using it.
My only complaint in shopping for a 600 watt immersion/stick blender was having to dig for the wattage information. Most of the Amazon and other retailer websites did not include the wattage of the units or it was buried in comments. In fact, I had trouble finding the any wattage information on some of the manufacturer's websites (I'm looking at you Kitchenaid - but oh so descriptive of the colors!).
What I did not realize was how big this thing is — much bigger than the regular sized plastic Braun I grew up with. This said, I was disappointed that the bottom part is too big to fit inside a mason jar. Heck, it's even too big to fit down into the bottom of the stainless cup they advertise as an add-on item. (Nice cup, just can't use it with this thing.) I use a 4 cup Pyrex glass pitcher to blend things up if they are not in a pot. This bigger foot does make it stable to stand on its own though.
Now it takes a while to make a smooth smoothie, and it's not a Vitamix, but it's also under a hundred dollars. I don't mind a little texture to my drinks. This still works better than your average blender any day.
Storing this is another issue. It stands well on its own, but it's too tall for under the cabinet unless you take it apart. I keep mine in a plastic bin where bags of alternative flours are kept. Best might be to make a mounting for it to hang on a wall.
Oh, also, make sure it CLICKS when twisting the attachment onto the motor. It will work even when it's not truly locked in place, but it will come off a little too easily when you go to put it away. I used it the first few times that way. I was afraid to "force" it any further so that it aligned with the lock icon.
2/6/15 Review update...I contacted All Clad to see about purchasing a new stem. After several emails, they asked me for a number that is embossed on the plastic part of the stem. Once they had this info, they agreed to give me a new stem at no cost. The process took two months and I haven't had a chance to use the new stem but apparently the stem issue is known to All Clad. Pretty good customer service but it took awhile.
It feels much sturdier than any stick blender I've owned (it's also about 3" longer in case you're pureeing something in the bottom of a well, I guess). Lots of speed settings. Lots of torque.
But it fell apart within a year. As others have reported, the blade itself drops out of the stick, and once that happens the whole thing is compromised. You can press it back together temporarily for another job, but soup gets deep into the blade apparatus where you can't clean it out, and the blade falls out again midway through.
It seems to have a 2-yr warranty. I've contacted All-Clad support and will update if they help.
My big complaint is that the stick is twist on and it doesn't latch or lock. So blending anything with resistance results in the blades falling off the motor. The whole point of a stick blender is to just need one hand; with this design I'm constantly using my off hand to hold the thing together
