The Crossroads series keeps growing and it keeps getting better and better with each new installment! This is the 11th book in this series and while it is part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand alone and the reader will enjoy it to the fullest.
Virginia "Ginny" Valentine is the first to admit that while she's had a great life due to be being a country music star, there are quite a few things she has missed out on as well, including romance and a real emotional connection to a man. This is never more clear after spending one night in the presence of Dax Archer where all they did was talk. Months later Ginny still can't get that night, or that man off her mind.
Dax Archer is former Special Ops and while he's more than experienced where women are concerned, he's never been affected by a woman the way he was after talking for hours on end with Ginny. When Ginny takes him up on his offer and shows up on his doorstep months later, Dax thinks that maybe he's hit the jackpot, but will the playboy be able to be become a one-woman man?
With Ginny scheduled to be in town for a month to work on new music with Chase, she hopes to not only spread her wings in a romantic sense, but she hopes to take more control over her life in general. When things out of her control begin to happen, will Ginny be able to keep the control that she has gained over the short period of time? Or will things quickly go back to the way they were and will Ginny lose the one person that has managed to make her feel safe and centered?
I loved how Melanie Shawn crafted a story that had innocence, emotion and heart mixed in with a heaping serving of heat! The chemistry that Dax and Ginny had was electric! I love this author and their books are always a "one-click" for me. I would highly recommend this book and all of the others in the series!
Dax is this bad-ass lady's man that is so sweet and strong all at the same time. He thinks he knows all about women, after growing up in a house with just a mom and a sister. Ginny proves that he still has a few things to learn every time he sees her things change for him. Ginny is so innocent and crazy sweet you just want to protect her from the entire world (just like her mom does). These two have such an entertaining get to know you/coming of age story that I could not stop reading.
Can't wait for my next visit to Harper's Crossing.
When she reappears, there's a lot going on that needs to be dealt with, including the fact she needs a bodyguard. Even though Dax tries hard to keep his feelings at bay, it's impossible with Ginny so close.
Although I loved the story, there was something missing. I felt like Ginny's relationship with her mom wasn't explored properly. Her mom was too involved and too overbearing but there was never really any closure on that part of her life. BUT overall, I loved it.
