I only rated this book a 4 because, while I enjoyed the book, it did not have a plot or story that kept me from putting the book down. There was no real hook, whether from suspense or character relationships, at the end of each chapter to make me read the next chapter without stopping. I did not feel anxious or invested in the story and was not staying awake to read just one more chapter (turning into the whole book) which is what makes a book 5 stars for me.
There's a touch of romance, but nothing racy. As a Texan, I especially appreciated the author's knowledge of the Dallas area. There may be too much artistic license on the efficiency of insurance companies after an accident or the expediency of an apartment maintenance crew, but this IS fiction, so I can't squabble over details...
I recommend reading this if you like crime-scene mystery!
I'm always looking for a new author and I definitely found one...
