From Library Journal
Schwartz, who runs workshops on "how to handle men in relationships," has appeared on Ricki Lake, Leeza, and even Oprah. Her media experience is clear from her book, which is filled with sound bites. This isn't a so bad, for it results in writing that is no-nonsense and easy to read. Her advice, offered in a "been-there-done-that" tone, is understandable and free of psycho-jargon. Schwartz's main point is that men treat women like jerks mainly because women let them. While it may look like she's blaming the victim, Schwartz gets away with it by using her own life as an example. She candidly admits that her own behavior has encouraged "jerkiness" in men and explains how she eventually stopped letting them walk all over her. She gives solid advice on how other women can achieve the same end. Recommended for all public libraries.APamela A. Matthews, Gettysburg Coll. Lib., PA

A daughter's romantic choices will be tainted by the way her father treated her whether she likes it or not. Certain behaviours on his part will trigger her behaviours.Women from fatherless families develop more promiscuous attitudes and experience difficulty in forming or maintaining romantic relationships...These behavioral patterns are carried with them throughout their lives and are usually the cause of their unfulfilling relationships with men.Without a precise delineation of the problem,it becomes a perpetual negative loop and vicious circle:she keeps trying to stop it, but because she isnt working at the real root of the problem it continually re-emerges therefore *mysteriously* she keeps getting involved with these so called "jerks".If a woman is experiencing difficulty maintaining relationships with men its worth examining the impact of the father daughter relationship on her storyline - it shifts the focus away from blaming the 'jerk'.
Victim consciousness is not something that is suddenly acquired,it is a habituated perception based on childhood victmisation.Women who engross themselves in victim consciousness due to an installed wound weakness, often go from relationship to relationship experiencing continual abuse. When a child is traumatised they are wounded and that wound leaves a weakness in the system,it's like an imprint, that imprint is similar to a keyhole that allows other abuser types to come along and use their abusive key to open the programme and exploit that person.
This book is very limited in its helpfulness due to the fact it,on a subliminal level, encourages women to see themselves as victimized, unfortunately when a person identifies and links herself into a victimization schema (Schwartz encourages women to have their "guard up" constantly) the more likely she is to feel victimized because she ends up relying on an activated victim schema to guide relationship expectations and behaviours.
I had to tear myself down to the framework and rebuild how I handle myself with men, but it was completely worth the effort, and actually quite fun and empowering. I married my perfect match in June 2013. :)
I also recommend the following: Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man; Christian Carter's Catch Him and Keep Him; He's Just Not That Into You; Rory Raye's newsletters; a book that speaks to you about finding your inner goddess; a book about internet dating if you are new to that; Why Men Love Bitches and Why Men Won't Commit. If your self esteem is low, look for Loving You Before Him.
That is the premise of the book. It is amazing how many dysfunctional women will put up with the abuse of jerks. It is the female jerk who thinks if she coddles the jerk enough, put up with enough of his abuse, he will change. HE WILL NOT CHANGE!
Women jerks are enablers for these men who are jerks.
I highly recommend this book.
