Gwen MacKenzie has had her share of loss and heartache over the past year, so when she travels to Scotland to visit her ancestral home, she is still unsure as to whether she'll remain in Scotland or return home to Georgia. However, when she arrives, she's immediately aware of a kilted man.
Niall McLeod was cursed hundreds of years ago. He sleeps for 10 years and is awake for only 10 days. So, when a young woman actually sees him, he has hope that the curse may finally be broken.
What follows is a sweet story of a woman who is finally beginning to understand her dreams and a man who desperately wants to be fully whole and human again. There are definite paranormal elements throughout and references to druid magic and curses, but nothing is explicit or graphic. What I enjoyed most was the developing romance between Gwen and Niall and how she was willing to risk all for him. I also loved Mrs. Fowler and her participation throughout the story.
Finally, I want to mention that I liked how the author tied the beginning and ending together. Not everyone may agree with me, but I felt that the plot elements worked. Gwen completely turned her whole life around and ended the book better and happier.
Romance - PG - kissing and hugs
Language - clean
Violence - references to past battle scenes, nothing graphic
My rating - 5 stars
3.5 stars since I liked it and had no issues with the story but didn't love it enough to go 4.
I was surprised to find it was a paranormal romance with a ghost, but that wasn't a bad thing as he was a handsome warrior in a kilt!
It was a very intriguing and fun twist.
The story had me guessing on every page. Could they have a relationship? Why was she experiencing all this craziness? Was she delusional? Why did her family keep her from Scotland all these years?
I could tell you all the answers, but then it'd spoil the book for the other readers, and that would be criminal.
Loved the side characters. Well written, developed, and emotional.
Jo Noelle has one again proven they can write a romance in any genre and time period and make a heart happy.
It was fun to see how Gwen changed her life by one trip and how that change made other's lives better. I love the magic that twist and turns through her and her heritage to affect Niall.
I also loved Niall's warrior exterior that was softened by a good heart and a protective man who cares deeply for those around him.
The romance is delightful with steamy kisses that make you want to hop the next flight to Scotland. Clean, fun, and full of mystery. Loved it. Great for a quick read.
This book really surprised me. I didn't expect that this has a paranormal aspect to it. The story made me want to be cautious in taking my next selfies. I'm afraid something else or someone I don't want to see may be in it. Am I scaring you? Don't worry, this story was not scary at all. Like Gwen, I wouldn't mind meeting a handsome highlander, even if he may be from another time.
I think this story was nicely written that the presence of two different times--contemporary and the past combined with the paranormal aspect worked together really well. It seemed that it could be plausible that this can happen in real life. Oh, what very lucky girl to inherit a mansion in Scotland and meeting your soulmate! Yes, this tale makes for a good wishful thinking. It's like inheriting a rich estate and then winning the lottery.
I give the book 4/5 hot guys wearing kilts. Phew! After reading this story, you will wish you have the same luck as Gwen. You will wish that you too will meet a hot guy in a kilt. Or even without the kilt, just a hot guy.
...like a ship you determine your fate, and not some evil wind.
