"I want to do this, and you haven't given one good reason why I shouldn't." "Then you haven't been listening, little girl," Chandos said, frowning. "You're too young, you're a female that the forty-some wranglers on the Bar M are not going to want to take orders from, and you've reached the time in your life when you should be looking for a husband. You won't be finding one with your nose buried in ranch ac counts and coming in off the range each day sweat-soaked and filthy." Casey was red-faced by then, most likely from anger, though it was hard to tell. "Marriage again!" she all but sneered. "There hasn't been a man around these parts in the last two years worth my taking notice of. Or do you want me to marry just anyone? If that's the case, I can think of a dozen men who are eligible. I'll go rope me one tomorrow, if that's what it'll take to--" "Don't be impertinent." "I'm being absolutely serious," Casey insisted. "You'd let a husband of mine run the Bar M, wouldn't you? You'd find-that perfectly acceptable. Well, I'll have a candidate for you no later than--" "You'll do no such thing. You will not marry just to get your hands on those account ledgers--" "I've had my hands on those account books for months now, Daddy. Sawtooth is half blind, if you didn't realize it. Trying to tally the ledgers gives him a powerful headache that actually makes him physically ill." It was Chandos who was red-faced now, and there was no doubt in his case that it was from anger. "Why wasn't I told about this?" "Maybe because every time Sawtooth rides over here to see you, you're out on the range somewhere. And maybe because you won't step foot on the Bar M to find out why he came over in the first place. And maybe be cause you don't really care about the Bar M. You'd just as soon see it fall to ruin now that Grandpa's gone, just to spite his memory."

"Casey!" This from Courtney in an appalled tone. But Casey had already blanched. She'd gone too far and knew it. And before her father could blast her for doing so, she ran from the room. Courtney started to assure Chandos that Casey had just let her emotions run away with her, that she hadn't really meant what she'd said; but, tight-lipped, he marched out of the room right behind Casey. Only not to follow her. He headed off toward the back of the house, a more direct route to the stable, while she'd run toward the front. Which was entirely too bad. Chandos shouldn't have let the argument end like that, with Casey riddled with guilt now, but still determined to change her father's mind. He should have been more explicit with his reasons. He should have pointed out that he didn't want to see Casey get hurt when she failed, which she was bound to do. The cowboys on the Bar M might accept her for a while, because they knew her as Fletcher's granddaughter, but inevitably there would be new men, and those who didn't know her and hadn't known Fletcher would start dissension soon enough. It might be different if she were an older woman, a widow or the like, but she wasn't. Most men simply wouldn't take orders from a woman, much less one they considered a young girl. But Chandos hadn't mentioned any of that, at least not clearly enough. Courtney would have to talk to her herself, though she would give her a day or two to calm down first. I read the first Straton book A Heart So Wild and really loved it. I could feel the family drama between the father and son. Then Courtney's situation when she found out her father could still be alive from the Indian attack. I also felt her terror when Chandros found her in the feedbox and almost killed her seeking revenge. It must've been terrifying back then for settlers heading West for a new life but also on the Native Americans when their land was stolen and all the treaties broken. Now the daughter of Chandros and Courtney is trying to prove she can run her grandfather's (Chandros's Dad) ranch. Ms Lindsey thoughtfully fleshed out the characters and put the reader in their place. While it seems farfetched that a young girl, Casey, would have the talent to be a bounty hunter; her father had taught her and her 2 brothers survival and tracking skills learned from his years as a Comanche warrior. The mystery comes when she encounters Damien Rutledge who is trying to find his father's killer. The drama is right up to the end; when they catch the killer but he escapes in Chicago on the way to NYC for trial. Casey shows her love when she helps with the reunion between Damien's mother and him in Chicago. I didn't feel she was spoiled or bratty I could feel her frustration over the limits put on women especially a confident and intelligent one by her father. He was doing what his father did to him; he finally comes to grips with this. Such a good story- read both books to get the feel for the characters and where they are at different stages of their lives. Also will there be a story about Tyler and Dillon (Casey's brothers)?

ALL I NEED IS YOU is the sequel to "A Heart So Wild" and as always, Ms. Lindsey writes another page turner. I really liked Casey who is NOT your typical 1800s female. She's hard-headed, stubborn, and as capable as most males of that time... but with a woman's feelings and emotions. Damian was absolutely wonderful and while he's not the usual western hero, he was strong, handsome, and wholly lovable. Although these two were total opposites, together they were absolutely perfect!

While this story was full of adventure and mystery, the romance wasn't as strong due to these two elements which constituted almost the entire plot. I still thought Casey and Damian made a cute couple, but do wish there had been more of an emphasis on them romantically. The ending also seemed a little rushed and for that I wish there had been an epilogue. Overall however, it was still a thoroughly satisfying and thrilling read, with never a slow or boring moment from start to finish.

"All I Need Is You" takes place in 1892 Texas, and is the second of two books in the "Straton Family" series and was originally released in 1997. It's definitely a must read for those like me who've read and loved "A Heart So Wild" which is a five star story in my opinion and features Casey's parents, Chandos and Courtney. And if you haven't already, I would highly recommend reading both books in this delightful series which were fast, fun, and completely entertaining historical romances =)

While the first book with Chandos is by far the better book... I still hold a special place in my heart for this story about Damien and Casey. I love Casey's spunk from her father but I think Damien's cool headed, practical
, Honest but uptight ways perfectly balence our Casey. She is spirited and capable of outwitting any man including Damien. But he still holds his own despite his inexperience with the west and the wild. They are a slow burn romance and fun to enjoy. It's not an emotional whirl wind of a romance but it's hot and exciting! I've reread a few times over the years.

Lots of spark between them. Johanna spins the greatest love storys. She has her different series of families. I love them all. I would love a follow on for Angel and Cassie.
