Setup was a snap. First thing I do when setting up a Show is to disable -- ALL -- home content toggles except calendar. I just use photo display from Amazon Photos and calendar functions. I have not seen any unwanted ads that others have complained about in comments. I can only assume they have not setup the Home Content section properly.
Besides the sound quality and speed the most noticeable improvement is the screen content and clock font size changes based on how close I am to the device. The closer I get, more functions become available.
Panos, if you are listening please stop enabling new feature toggles automatically. I'd prefer an email letting me know what is new and let me choose to enable it myself. A Microsoft Teams integration option would also be nice.

If you seek a device that easily keeps you in the loop on Amazon services, allows you to order and track Amazon products, watch Prime Video (along with a couple other streamers), as well as interact with Alexa compatible smart home devices, then Echo Shows are for you. Look no further. Most smart home devices, such as camera doorbells, security cameras, audio devices, feature unrivaled integration and compatibility with Alexa.
Be warned though. If you want a stock smart display purely for managing your smart hub and devices, then this device is probably not for you. You may also be turned off with the constant Amazon notifications and recommendations. You can disable these, but keep in mind that you're disabling a lot of the features that may make this device stand out, if those features are important to you. This is my one big knock on the device. Wither this keeps you from buying an Echo Show, its all down to personal preference, and how much you want to embed yourself with Amazon.
Here's my take between the 2.
Love the the echo show for the product itself, but the photo edition which basically just a subscription of $2 per month for this specific 3rd gen echo 8 only is not worth it. The integration with Amazon Photos is not well thought out. Amazon did not put too much investment and thought into it.
Amazon photos app itself is already confusing in itself. What u see on desktop app, iPhone app and thru web browser are all different.
Once u configured it on Ur echo to show the pictures, it show random pictures which I think only show about 30 pictures at a time for a few hours which I still can't figure out how long before it changes to the next batch of pics. Sometimes the next batch would also show a few of the previously shown batch. I really can't figure out the algorithm it uses.
I started small with abt 80 pictures only on my Amazon photos to share. Then after a few days increased to 200+ and wait again before increased to 400+ pictures. I have to turn on/off the photo mode function for it to get the updated pictures shown on echo device. With 400+ pictures, it still mostly showing the first 70+ pics I've uploaded. Any new pics, maybe only 2-3 pics in the mix. Sometimes, the picture would get stuck and no longer rotate too, so u would have to turn on/off the photo mode to sort of restart its pictures again.
I'll be returning this echo unfortunately because I purchased this for the "photo" function so I could send it to my parents so they could enjoy the pics while I keep refreshing the pics on Amazon photos. Also use it to Drop-In, listening music, etc. But I have many older Gen echo that I could send to them for that use. I really want to like this but not yet. And I don't believe Amazon will put too much effort in improving this.
The Aura picture frame is great. It can integrates with Google Photos easily. What it is lacking though is the echo product capability of it, no music, no drop-in, the screen viewing angle is not as great as Amazon Echo and u cannot adjust the brightness. For what the product is made for, it's great!

Nice design. Large size is perfect for kitchen countertops.
