An Amazon Best Book of July 2016: Okay, I’m not going to sugar coat this—the first chapter is a doozy. You will read about a teenage girl named Jenny being attacked, and as you might expect it’s not a pretty picture. Now having said that, there’s a good chance that this chapter will be far less difficult than what probably just popped into your mind, so fear not and forge ahead. All Is Not Forgotten is narrated by the psychiatrist to whom the victim and her family turn when a controversial memory drug turns out to have unanticipated consequences. Over the course of the novel there are a myriad of secrets, dropped like bread crumbs by the one who hears them all. In this small, idyllic, Connecticut town there is plenty going on beneath the surface, particularly when it comes to the inner lives of the husbands and wives…Yes, there are a couple other brutal passages along the way but it’s worth wading through every one of them to reach the zinger at the end. --Seira Wilson, The Amazon Book Review

“Captivating and bold, Wendy Walker takes an incisive look at the importance of memory and the power of manipulation. Fascinating and at times shocking, All Is Not Forgotten is one book you won’t easily forget. Not to be missed!” –Mary Kubica, author of THE GOOD GIRL
“With an exceptionally unreliable narrator and unique plot set-up, All Is Not Forgotten is a compelling, thought-provoking mystery that will have you looking at every therapist you know in a brand new light.” –Kimberly McCreight, author of WHERE THEY FOUND HER
"In the brutal, heart-pounding All Is Not Forgotten, memory cannot be trusted; when a girl is given "the treatment" to erase her memories of a vicious attack, a small town crumbles under the weight of its secret peccadilloes, dangerous alliances, and the question of what really happened that dark night. A fascinating and compelling novel." –Miranda Beverly-Whittemore, author of BITTERSWEET

I was really excited about this book and couldn't wait to read it. That said, I was disappointed. The book felt really slow moving and unbelievable at a lot of points. Loose ends were tied up too neatly and the pieces fit together too well. I also didn't feel a connection to any of the characters; they felt undeveloped to me and none of them were likable, including the narrator.
Most of the book felt like it wasn't purposeful. There were chapters at a time where I wondered what the point was that ended up not being necessary to the book. It took away from the story and from the overall likability of the book. It wasn't until about 3/4 of the way in to the book that I actually felt engaged and felt the story progress and pick up.
Walker is a skilled writer, who keeps the story moving through the psychiatrist's therapy sessions with Jenny, her mother, Charlotte and father, Tom. Also receiving therapy is Sean, a PTSD victim, who becomes Jenny's friend when they find that they can share the experience of the "ghosts" of memory threads that haunt them. Alan Forrester, the psychiatrist, digs deeply into the backgrounds of all involved, and dredges up delicious fodder for all their reactions to the events of their lives. You will swear that, besides being an attorney, Walker has been a psychiatrist, so keen are her insights into the dynamics of a family confronted with a horrific situation. Add to all of this, life in a small town, where everybody knows everybody, and you have the perfect setting for cracks to develop in what seemed an idyllic foundation. There are many mysteries to solve besides who raped Jenny.
I was fortunate to be able to set life aside long enough to read this tantalizing novel in two days. A novel like this one comes along too seldom - one that keeps you on edge throughout, and leaves you thinking about the implications of the "treatment" at the basis of therapy for trauma victims. Is it really a benefit to victims to blank out all memory of their trauma? What are we really accomplishing when we use drugs to alter memory? We'll be hearing more about this technique in the years to come. In the meantime, here's an intriguing novel for supreme reading pleasure and something new to think about! Great writing...creative, innovative premise!
Brace yourself for the first part. It is gruesome. There is a rape. She is a young girl. It is chilling.
My recommendation, settle in for this one. Carve out some time. Some serious time. Because you are not going to want to put Wendy Walker’s ALL IS NOT FORGOTTEN down and you will not forget this one.
