a) we see D and M's first meeting, and then it skips ahead a few weeks and tells us nothing other than they're not getting along so well
b) temper tantrums are thrown, sexual tension is high, and then apparently in three blissful days they fall madly in love (Cinderella, much?)
The romance falls flat, because it was forced on me. Blackstream basically tells the reader they're in love, and that's the end of it. I can accept that trope in other fairy tales, but not in B & B.
So, the sister plotline had me rolling my eyes and curling my lip. I don't have any siblings, but I'd like to think that Corrine is not the standard. I admit that I hate when serious books make antagonists purely evil, but what I hate more is poor attempts at making antagonists redeemable. Corrine was a psycho (female dog) and I don't care if she's your precious sister. She's weak, useless, selfish, manipulative, and crazy. Flat out crazy. She constantly uses Maribel and while she says she doesn't want to and loves her sister, not a single action shows that. AND MARIBEL HOLDS HER ACCOUNTABLE FOR EXACTLY NOTHING. Oh, my sister cursed a guy? It must've been a misunderstanding, I'm not going to even explain the many ways in which it was wrong. And by the end of the book she has to realize how many times Corrine has lied, and it changes nothing in their relationship. Sweet baby Jesus, there's nothing worse than reading a poorly written family. No, no family is perfect, but they should at least acknowledge when one member is insane and address that issue. Corrine is probably a bad enough character that my suggestion is to skip any chapter where she leads, and just stop when D and M get together.
Compared to the Blood Prince series, this is definitely a letdown, which is a huge disappointment. In all likelihood I won't re-read it, I don't really recommend it, and it probably wasn't worth $5.
