Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Drawing from several North American tribal traditions, Taylor offers seven memorable stories that explain the "skyworld."^B From a story about Coyote creating the Big Dipper to a selection about Grandmother bringing light to the world, these easy-to-understand, thought-provoking tales range from funny to instructional to inspirational. Each tale is illustrated with a colorful full-page painting that adds visual appeal. Taylor, of Mohawk heritage, explains more about the tales in an afterword and expresses her hope that the selections will awaken children's wonder in the night skies. No source notes are provided, although each tale is attributed to a specific tribe. Karen Hutt

Format: Hardcover
This is a nice book for those who look up at the night skies with wonder and think of all who have looked at the stars before.
There are 7 stories that tell how different Indian tribes explained the pattern of stars.
The illustrations - one for each story are beautiful.

The book is labeled grades 2 to 4. It would be a bit of a high level for most 2nd graders, but they and others would also enjoy this being read to them. Even adults could learn some enjoyable tales from these pages.
