married, and similar, yet different, painful pasts they over came.
Keely is 19 and working her butt off to get out of Fort Collins, where she was raised. Ronan had fled years before, after stopping to say goodbye to Keely. We learn about their childhoods with awful, negligent parents and obvious parental preference to their older siblings. We know Ronan fled because of his brother, Will, and that Keely wants to leave because of her sister, Izzy and brother in law, Will (Ronan's brother).
The book starts with the deaths of Izzy and Will. Keely was in the car with them when it happened, while they were on their way to L&D because Izzy was in labor with a surrogate baby, or at least, Keely thought she was. Keely then adopts her niece and our love story starts from there.
This story pulled me in from the beginning. Why was Ronin leaving? What happened? What were Will and Izzy up to that was so awful? All is eventually revealed and it's a doozy. This book is all the feels. Sadness, anger, happiness and love. I would say it's a good mix of a heavy and a light read.
Keely had a crush on Ronan while growing up (he's seven years older), he was the only one that was there for her, that paid her any attention after her mom died. She was heart broken when Ronan left town when she was fourteen saying he was never coming back, she never knew why he left so abruptly.
Five years later and he is forced to come back after an accident takes the lives of his brother and Keely's sister, leaving behind a newborn baby.
Ronan never wanted to step foot in his hometown again. After seeing what made him leave in the first place he feels the place is toxic and has no desire to deal with a child made by two of the worst people he has ever known. But when he learns that Keely was also injured in the accident he jumps on a plane right away.
There was a big age gap between the two and it was something Ronan obsesses over because he is attracted to her but feels it is wrong. But Keely may be technically a teenager but her life has made her much older personality wise. Ronan finds himself growing attached to both girls and the thought of leaving hurts. It takes him awhile, nearly the end of the book, to have his come to Jesus moment with how he feels, and that he doesn't want to live without them.
I personally had no problems with them being together. Like I said, Keely does not act like a teenager. The epilogue was sweet, maybe a little quick for one of the new things coming for them though in my opinion.
