When I read her second, I boiled it over....
On this third one, I learned my lesson, and thank God, because this author is a genius of words and heart. The epic balance she carries between lust and love, trials and hope, sizzling romance and life long messages to the soul is insane!
I opened this book expecting nothing short of five stars. I hold the bar high when I pick up a McAdam's book but that woman raises it each time! From the first line in every book she hooks you. You can't read that first line without needing more, it's total book crack!
As for this specific book in her collection of published works... Absolutely flipping fantastic.
Jake like any man written by this author is REAL! Down to traits and gestures! He was so perfectly imperfect, so marvelously MAN! His growth throughout the story, his believable and gradual changes are so inspirational! I love him! I'm in love and I miss the man.
Lucy, what words are there for Lucy? The third most well written female lead! Why third? Because McAdam's has three other books out with female leads that own the book world! Funny, charming, relatable, sexy, classy, heartfelt women that I want to meet in person! When a female lead from a previous book shows up in a current one, my heart flips over! That's how well written these people are.
The couple in this story touch on real life problems and face them with courage and grace! There's so much more to this book! Labeled as a romance you'll feel the heat full force but the silent echo of the life lessons slipped in are delivered in discretion that's haunting. Haunting because the wisdoms of the page will linger in your mind!!!
I can't praise Leslie McAdam's enough. She's once AGIAN not failed to deliver perfection in her writing and I will ALWAYS buy her books.
Get the sex, the heat, the passion, the race in your heart, the high of desirable romance with climactic saucy encounters AND embrace the steam along with the quiet message of hope that shadows each and every book by this woman!
Five stars and a standing ovation!!!!
Lucy was a sassy, curvy and confident single mom who writes romance novels. Through her writing she has been able to provide a good life for her and her 12 your old son, Rob. With her world pretty much revolving around her son, she had put her love life on hold, living vicariously through her books. You will absolutely love her relationship with her son and she will earn your respect when her baby daddy, who by the way is a real a$$, tries to threaten that relationship.
But what happens when a sexy, dark haired, blue eyed guy moves in the duplex next door? Well, after a somewhat embarrassing meeting with her new neighbor, Jake, when he returns her red lace thong from the laundry room they share. You got it, Lucy quickly became besotted with him. Not only that but she had to find a way to talk to him again so she volunteered to bring him homemade tamales. I love these tidbits of humor!
It didn’t take Lucy long to realize just how much of a workaholic Jake was. Living in a duplex it was easy for Lucy to see just how much time was spent at work. Up early and off for a run before work and not returning home until late evening Jake was definitely driven. Not only is Jake a workaholic but he is also a very complicated man with many issues for growing up. In spite of all of this Jake and Lucy still find stolen moments to forge a friendship.
Their chemistry is undeniable. Not only that but that chemistry gets cranked up a notch when Lucy and Jake’s paths collide at an art class where she models nude. Leslie also will not disappoint with her white hot sex scenes …. Lucy and Jake are off the chart hot! Jake is not only a hot, sexy man God but he is kind and sweet. One of the best parts of ATWOTE is just how accepting Jake is of Lucy’s son, Rob. What man would not steal your heart when they accept your child?
It was fun to have a surprise appearance from Amelia and Ryan and Marie and Will in this book! A truly awesome read and I cannot wait for Leslie’s next novel!!
I won't give away the plot, mostly because I personally love to be surprised when I read something. But I will tell you a little about the characters, who are beautiful and flawed and so real I feel like I know them. The best part is that they change throughout the book. They change because they meet each other, but also because they are strong people. They learn to forgive and let go, but also to hold on to what's really important.
I love that Lucy, who's a romance writer, creates these drop dead handsome men in her books. And then, to her complete surprise, one shows up at her door. Except he's not perfect like the guys she invents. He makes mistakes, and has a troubled past, and is wrapped up in work. But all those things, paradoxically, make him even more perfect and real and lovable.
My favorite thing about Jake, aside from the fact that he's YUMMY AS HELL, is the fact that he is willing to change and grow. And he takes care of Lucy. And her son. Like, seriously, *swoon*.
And of course, as with any McAdam book, the sex? It's sooooooper hot! And not just the physical act itself, but the things Jake says are out-of-this-world oh-my-god too.
This book is delicious. It's well-written (duh, it's by Leslie McAdam), sexy, and once I started, I didn't stop till the very last page.
