All Wound Up is an omnibus of the author's Wind-Up Toy series and also includes several related short stories and a new novella. It is virtually a biography of the beloved, demented, misunderstood, psychopathic, and sexually driven serial killer Simone, though some bits delve into other prominent characters who helped shape him (for good or for bad).
I especially loved the new novella, Into the Playpen, which ties up a few loose ends from the first few novellas and gives us a glimpse at life for Simone after his initial years-long reign of terror. The final short story fast-forwards a number of years into the future and seems to hint at the ultimate fate of our favorite serial killer. However, in typical clever Hughes style, we don't really know if Simone is still out there lurking or not . . .
I had read most of the works after they released separately, but that didn't diminish the punch of All Wound Up as a whole. With fresh edits, a fitting hardcover with dust jacket, and some new pieces included, this book is a sure bet on insomnia. The ultimate collection for Simone lovers!
David, for me this is your best to date. I still have a few to read because you are a story writing freak of nature and my TBR pile is out of control.
The artwork on the jacket is gorgeous....nothing like the feel of a nice, thick hardcover in my hands....Mmmmmmm.
People!! Do yourself a HUGE favor and get this book...I promise you will love it.
i'm sure I left out a few adjectives here, but you get the point.
