This was the seventh or so fountain I purchased. After watching a number of YouTube videos about starter fountain pens this was one (Lamy Safari) that was consistently mentioned.
Appearance:
It's very subtle in appearance, particularly when using the included ink cartridge, which is nice. It will likely look quite neat when a highly contrasting colored ink is used because of the view window. The included blue ink looks quite nice on decent quality paper.
Function:
Unfortunately, it turns out that I'm not a fan of the triangle grip as I find it interferes with my writing more than helping to guide it. I also found that it wrote inconsistently, which was very disappointing. After adjusting my writing angle it did noticeably improve but still didn't write consistently. If it wrote well, it's very light weight would make for quite a pleasurable writing experience. I've attached writing comparisons between this and a Pilot Metropolitan. I may opt for some minor tine adjustment to see if this helps any.
Accessories:
I bought a converter just in case I liked it and it'll also be useful for another Lamy model should I choose to buy another. It's similarly priced for other pens at this and even lower price points (i.e. Jinhao).
Conclusion:
Given the high degree of pedigree that largely accompanies this brand, both my personal dislike of the grip section and the inconsistent writing greatly detract from the pluses of using the pen. I hope I just got one of those possible duds and will likely try a different Lamy model.
