Versatile Racks for Diverse CollectionsThe latest innovation from Allavino is here! The Allavino FlexCount Series Wine Refrigerators have been designed with diverse wine collections in mind. Most wine coolers on the market are designed with the standard 750 mL bottle in mind, but as you probably know, there does not seem to be a 'standard' anymore. |
To give their bottles a unique look that stands out on the shelves of wine retailers, many wineries have deviated from the old standards which is great for them, but can wreak havoc on your wine storage with your average wine refrigerator. Allavino FlexCount Series Wine Refrigerators are not your average wine refrigerator. |
Featuring cutting edge shelves that maximize the available storage space while sturdily supporting your precious collection, FlexCount Series Wine Refrigerators can hold larger diameter bottles without the need to reconfigure or remove shelves. Taller bottles, tapered bottles and larger diameter bottles up to Pinots and Chardonnays can be stored in each model, meeting the needs of collectors with varying bottle shapes. |

Digital Temperature ControlEach zone has it's own digital display with easy-to-use push button controls to make setting and reading the temperature a snap! They can be set high enough for red wine or low enough for white or sparkling wine. |
Innovative New Shelf DesignThe revolutionary metal shelving design is both strong enough to support the weight of bottles without sagging and thin enough to give you more storage space between shelves to accommodate larger diameter bottles. |
Stores More Bottle SizesThanks to the additional storage space between shelves, this wine refrigerator is capable of storing bottles of varying diameters without requiring you to remove racks and greatly reduce your overall storage capacity. |
Built-In VersatilityThe front-venting design and fully finished cabinets give you the option to build these wine coolers into your cabinetry for a seamless look, or to use them as stylish freestanding additions to any room in your home. |

Product description
The all-new VSWR56-2SSRN Dual Zone Wine Cooler Refrigerator from Allavino is the perfect choice for anyone looking to store a diverse wine collection. A digital display and user-friendly push button controls make it easy to individually adjust the temperature of each zone, allowing you to store both red and white wine simultaneously. Thanks to Allavino's new cutting edge shelves, which are thin enough to allow more space between shelves than you will find in similarly sized wine refrigerators, you can now store larger bottles without sacrificing bottle capacity. These shelves are constructed of durable metal to provide reliable stability and prevent sagging over time, and feature attractive stainless steel fronts and wood slats that cradle your bottles and help minimize harmful vibration. This front-venting refrigerator can be built-in to provide a seamless look to your kitchen, or used as a stylish freestanding unit with finished sides and top. Electrical requirements: 115V/60Hz.

One - there is a very strong smell to the refrigerator when you take it out of the box. Even though we left the door open for two days before plugging it in, the smell still lingers. Maybe, but not sure, it's from the wood shelving's off-gassing.
Two - even more seriously, the two temperature zones require that the lower zone be 5 degrees warmer than the top zone.(We even verified this with the shipper.) Unfortunately, the lower zone has built-in shelves that hold the larger bottles of champagne. What were they thinking??? This seems to be something that could be fixed fairly easily.
Three- it took a while to get here (2-3 weeks), even though the shipping was from San Diego, CA to Santa Barbara, CA, a drive of approx. 5 hours.
Also, my husband has a hand-held infrared temperature gauge, and the two zones, though set to the 5 degree difference, fluctuate between 9 degrees and 4 degrees difference.
On the plus side, it looks good, and the shelves stack the wine beautifully. We set the temperature for red wine, and have to refrigerate champagnes before serving.
I contacted Mr. Appliance and this was their report ver Batum.
Trouble Reported- Diagnosis / Work Performed
Tested for voltage to control board. 120v in. The transformer is working properly. All fans are working properly. The compressor is running and drawing approximately 1 amp of current. No frost pattern on the evaporator. Internal temp does not drop from 75 degrees. Unit has a sealed system leak. Recommended replacement due to the high cost of repair. Amount of $537.50
The long version:
First one arrived damaged during shipping (which took three weeks - from CA to VA, so understandable). Contacted the seller (The Beverage Factory) and they immediately sent a new one and took the old one back when delivered (another 2+ weeks). So initial good customer service.
Fridge is really sharp looking, fit well under in the kitchen cabinet and worked great -- would have been 4 or 5 stars at that point. At about a year and a half the top zone started having problems staying at temperature. This quickly got worse until it wouldn't cool at all. The bottom zone was still working for a little while longer then started to fade as well then finally died completely. Contacted Allavino and the customer service person (who was very nice) and suggested a hard-reset. Did not work. Called back a couple days later and another person (also very nice) suggested unplugging it for a couple days then retry. Again didn't work. She also alluded to perhaps being able to replace it at a discount. I had no interest sinking more money into a poor product, so didn't pursue that option.
Fortunately, I used my Capital One card to purchase it, which has a nice perk of extending the manufacturer warranty by a year. It did cost me $150 to get a required repair estimate, but figured that is a good trade to get $800+ back. The guy said that the coolant was almost completely gone, which indicates a slow leak. It would be hard (and expensive) to find and repair.
Just submitted my claim to Capital One, so it's not yet fully resolved but I am optimistic it will be taken care of. The repairman said that this problem is very common with wine fridges, so will look for the one with the best warranty for the replacement.
UPDATE: Capital One approved my claim and refunded my money plus the diagnostic fee. Still trying to find a decent wine fridge....
