The coloring of the leather and laces is different from the previous set, not bad just different. The sole is exactly the same as the original (and that was very long lasting). The stitching appears different,.. just a tad thinner than the previous version,..and they are made in the Dominican Republic now. They are just as comfortable as the "originals",..so based on sole and comfort (+) and thinner stitching and no longer made in USA (-), I give them three stars,..if they wear as well as the previous and last as long,.. I will up the rating...worn for casual wear at office and out in town once to twice a week,.... occasionally while actual boating.
Based on the Amazon listing, I thought I was buying shoes made in the USA - this is clearly stated in the Amazon listing - but these shoes are NOT! While I don't mind supporting other countries' economies to an extent (this is almost unavoidable these days, especially since most everything is made in China now, after all), I do prefer to buy US when I can. And I certainly don't like paying US-made prices for shoes made in what I believe is a low-wage country like the Dominican Republic. Had I known from the beginning that these were not US-made, I would not have purchased these shoes at the listed price.
While I don't believe that Amazon intended to deceive, and with millions of listings a mistake is understandable, in the end I really just want a pair of Allen Edmonds Eastport Boat Shoes made in the USA, especially at over $170 a pair. Because I didn't get what I thought I had purchased, I had to return the shoes. 'Nuff said.
UPDATE 1: Right after writing this review I looked at other reviews and found several that mentioned that these shoes are now made in the Dominican Republic rather than Maine. I guess I should have read the reviews before ordering!
UPDATE 2: When I returned these shoes I mentioned that the reason was because the listing says "Made in USA" but the shoes say "Made in Dominican Republic", but the listing still says "Made in USA" as of 27 July 2013, but I strongly suspect the shoes still aren't.
UPDATE 3: As of 3 September 2013 the Amazon listing is still incorrect, still says "Made in USA" but shoes are actually made in the Dominican Republic.
