Prevent Damage Before It Happens
With One of the Top Selling Gun Socks for Long Guns
Allen's 52" Knit Gun Socks help protect against the following:
At Allen, we're hunters and shooters, just like you. That's why we treat the knit fabric with silicone -- to help keep moisture out so you don't have to deal with rust on your favorite firearm.
Even Fits Scoped Guns
At 52" in length (132 cm), this knit gun sock is made from a stretchy fabric that is designed to fit over scopes. Just scrunch it up like you're putting a sock on your foot, then slide your gun in.
Having an opening on one end of something protecting your firearm from so many elements doesn't make sense. So we've included a drawstring so you can protect your gun from end to end.
Made in the USA
Allen has a facility just outside Denver, Colorado, where we make these gun socks and many of the other products our consumers love. Our commitment since we opened our doors in 1970 is to make great products at even better values. (Tan #167 and Green/Black #168 gun socks are made in China - all others are Made in the USA).
This knit gun sock is designed to protect your firearm against scratches, dings, dust, and marring when traveling or stored in your safe or hard case. The silicone treatment helps keep moisture away from your gun, which prevents rust. Fits most guns with or without scopes up to 52" or 132cm in length. Green/Black gun sock is made in China.
Top Customer Reviews
These socks are great with rifles with iron sights and shotguns, but may be too narrow for many modern sporting firearms with pistol grips and scopes. I ordered larger (wider) socks to accommodate firearms with larger profiles and bigger scopes.
Unlike many of the Allen Company products manufactures made in the USA, these socks are labeled as made in China. A 5 star product.
-Probably works great for smooth, wood, bolt-action rifles.
-Will protect rifles from scratches without holding moisture against surface of gun (assuming silicon coating is effective).
-Probably a good choice for safe storage.
-I'm able to cover the barrel and handguard relatively easily, then fold the remaining sock over and wrap it around the magwell to cover about half my AR and prevent things from entering bore and chamber.
-Didn't rip despite being stretche and roughly pulled over metal surfaces.
-Impossible to quickly access my rifle with the sock on.
-About 1.5' too long. Sock is 52", most ARs are about 36".
-Doesn't stretch enough to use easily on my Ruger AR 556 with stock ironsights.
-Catches on sharp metal edges of sights and rail of my AR making covering and removal time consuming and difficult.
-Wide spaces in fabric when stretched would easily allow water to pass through (maybe not a con, it's not meant to waterproof your gun).
-"Silkscreened" Ruger logo looks like it was painted onto the fabric and I wouldn't be surprised if it flakes off eventually with use and wear.
The 6 pack price of the socks was very good, so now instead of beg, borrowing and stealing tripod bags, the stands are in the gunsocks, safe and sound.
But, scopes will slow down getting them in and out.
It is like pulling a sock over your shoe.
It can be done, but will take a minute.
Also, my rifles and optics are well mounted and I don't worry about them moving on me.
Some may find this tight fit around the scope problematic.
If so, get the Allen Tactical Gun Sock. It gives more room.
These let me fit more in my safe without dings and scrapes.
I now have a sock of some sort on all my long guns and shot guns.
Haven't tried using one of these for an AR type rifle, but I imagine it wouldn't come close to fitting. For those type rifles pick up their "tactical gun sock" instead. It's much wider and easily accommodates a pistol grip as well as any optics you might have.
With all that said, these socks are nice quality. They are the first gun socks I've purchased, so I don't have a whole lot to compare them to, but they seem to do what they are advertised to do: keep moisture off of your firearms and help prevent corrosion. No harsh smells or sticky feeling.
