I love this author. Things that happen in this novel are unexpected and unanticipated. As an older person, I could empathize with Bea. Allie shows the fortitude required for her to merely survive after her parents are cuffed and taken to jail all of a sudden. We are talking riches to rags in one chapter. The journey for these two characters begins with some ethical, and soul searching decisions made by both. Don't misread me...humor abounds as well as suspenseful. A great easy read.

This wasn't my favorite Catherine Hyde book but I enjoyed it. It had a slow start. I was tempted to put it down a few times but I'm glad I didn't.

This was an enjoyable story with a great ending. I liked the character of Allie but I thought that Beas character was a bit stiff. For all that they had been through and everything Allie had done for her, I would have liked to see her show a little more affection. But I did enjoy it.

I loved this book. I got to know Allie and Bea a as if they were members of my family. It was so refreshing to read a book that did not deal with the beautiful young blonde characters. As an older person I really liked reading about how wonderful the relationship developed between Bea and Allie. At times I was so upset with the beginning of their relationship but as I read on it was delightful to see the two develop a true friendship and even love between the two.

This was a delightful read with a very different story line about two very different personalities learning to get along through the mutual need to survive every day life and make the most of what they had. The two learn that by reaching out to the world and by leaning on each other they could overcome many obstacles. I gave it 4 stars and not 5 because even though I enjoyed the story, I felt it lacked the use of descriptive words at time, especially when conveying emotions.

I just finished this book. It's an easy read that is just a great story. No over describing trees and wall colors do many other writers do. It's a story. An older woman who finds herself in a desperate situation financially that can happen to any of us and a teenager who falls victim to her parents choices. Life has many choices. So many we meet along the way can shape the rest of our lives. Good or bad. If we let it. I loved this story.

Catherine Hyde loves writing about different kinds of people. In this story you'll meet a lonely old lady and a young needy girl. Actually, they're both needy and they end up helping each other. This is a great story that allows you to explore the boundaries of right and wrong. How long will you continue doing what's right, when push comes to shove? Be ready to reevaluate your judgements as you travel the coast with Bea and Allie.

What marvelous characters and their storyline. I really enjoyed their joint adventure. What they taught each other was amazing. Plus what both gained was what they exactly needed to complete themselves. Grandmother and Granddaughter. I cried and laughed along with the outcome. Wish you had included their journey with her Mother along, to Mexico. Maybe a sequel here!!!!!!

Read first chapter.
Found another book to read.
Forgot about this story.
(The first chapter was not interesting at all.)
Received email notice asking what I thought.
Knowing that I owed the author my time to read this....
LOVED IT!
"Make this a movie"
I did cry a little, too.

Not a perfect story, but it is an ADVENTURE!!

I simply loved this book for so many reasons. Allie is a sheltered teenager from a well to do home suddenly thrown out into the world. Bea is a widowed broke senior citizen who has lived through life's hard knocks throughout her years. They cross paths when each unknowingly needs the other the most. The characters are developed and the situations are believable.
