Kirkus Reviews says:
"McKenzie pens a swampy middle-grade story full of humor, hauntings, quirky characters and a mystery that continues to develop to the very end.
"The folksy diction and lyrical, verb-heavy storytelling will leave readers turning the pages all the way to the end, where big surprises await and the real villains are revealed.
A short, fun story that will excite both young and old imaginations."
Luke 22 says:
"I read this book with my 11yr old and 8 yr old and we had such an adventure. Can I say we never got bored. Pete was a lovable character. He was a typical kid and my children loved him and cheered him on. Oh my gosh and the adventures had my daughter on the edge of her seat."
Melinda Hills' Review for Readers' Favorite 5 Stars!
Truly imaginative and quite engaging, Alligators Overhead by C. Lee McKenzie is a terrific story for young readers. Along with amusing characters and a well-paced plot, this story provides subtle messages about love, loss and responsibility, as well as the need for protecting the environment. With plenty of humor and action fit for kids, Pete and his best friend accept a serious challenge and learn that there's more to life than just having fun.
From the Author
Alligators Overhead (AO) is a departure for me. I usually write young adult books with contemporary, realistic themes. I think AO was a much needed break. I wanted a good laugh and one of those quirky adventure stories that took me away from this all-too-real world. It was fun to write and I hope it will be fun for others to read.
