Review

"Ms. Gilmore is an excellent storyteller, and her main characters are hard to forget, but her secondary characters are equally impressive...Almost in Love is delightful and highly recommended."--USA Today

"Forget alpha-male billionaires. The Studs will have you panting for that guy in nerdy glasses."--NYT Bestselling Author, Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

"I was pulled in quickly and between the fascinating characters, the witty banter, the flow of the story and the emotions I was feeling I was blown away! I loved every second."--A Beautiful Book

5 Amber. Here. Now. STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You know those nice romance novels with the sweet guy and the pretty girl and everything just works out and it's a good book but nothing super special?
Well this is not that book.
It may seem like it will be but it's so much better!!

The writing is just superb. I was pulled in quickly and between the fascinating characters, the witty banter, the flow of the story and the emotions I was feeling I was blown away! I loved every second.

"Dating first, then sex, he reminded himself. That was the order of things."

Barry is all kinds of wonderful; he was such a breath of fresh air. (No man whore here.) He's smart and a bit geeky, but he's also sweet, tender caring, genuine and true to himself. Plus he's sexy and can take control. I mean come on, he has six-pack abs and a two-pack butt. He may go a bit over-the-top with things and be overly dramatic at times but he is who he is and he's a wonderful person. I haven't enjoyed reading a male character this much in a while. I want a Barry!!

"He also had moves from his mother’s romance novels he was dying to try out."

Amber is a bit lost and needs to feel special to someone. She's strong and funny, original and sexy, creative, outgoing and kind but she's still finding herself. Thank goodness she has enough sense to realize what is right in front of her.

"She was so different from the women in his past. She fascinated him. An artist with a sense of humor—she’d laughed at his jokes as so few did—and an innate kindness."

This story was really funny and endearing and it was so much more than I expected.
I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

*you must read the prequel before starting this book.

Barry's book is the second book in the Clover Park STUDS series. This book can be read as a stand-alone. This was the first book I read and the series and did not feel lost at all. Now to the nitty gritty, I loved this book. Although it was filled with cringe worthy moments, I could not put it down. I felt for Barry the whole time. He was an unpredictable adorable hero that I could not get enough of.
Barry fell in love with the girl across the hall, Amber an artist trying to get out from her under over-achieving physicist family. Barry tries so hard to impress Amber only to be thrown into the "Friend Zone" time and time again. His intentions, while good, fall flat every time. He's the adorable nerd that takes good intentions to a whole new level. This is what made him loveable. So many times I wish I was that platonic friend that could stir him away from his hair brained ideas.
This was an adorable story that kept me up way into the night. I had to see how he would finally win the girl. And if he could do it as himself or as a facade she wanted him to be. One-click the hell out of this one; you won't be sorry.

Kylie Gilmore’s newest addition to the Clover Park gang may be the hottest yet. In this prequel and novel, we get reacquainted with Barry Furnukle, he of the dancing cow we met in the previous novel, Bad Taste in Men. Who knew what hotness was lurking just below his geeky surface? Certainly not Amber Lewis, his pink-haired, bad-boy lovin’ next door neighbor. As far as Amber is concerned, Barry is “just friends” material: perfect for watching cheesy zombie movies with, but definitely not for dating. Barry, however, is nothing if not persistent. He pulls out all the stops to prove he’s every bit as exciting as those biker types Amber seems drawn to. Hey, none of them became a pirate for her, did they?

Gilmore once again pulls the reader in with two wonderfully relatable lead characters, and then ramps up the sexual heat between them until it’s just about necessary to fan yourself. Further, she surrounds them with a vibrant supporting cast chock full of hilarious antics as well as a few surprises. In fact, for me, the supporting casts Ms. Gilmore creates in her novels is as big a draw as her protagonists. There are no boring, cookie-cutter characters to be found in Clover Park.

And to think, Barry is just the first stud she’s unleashing for us. I can’t wait to meet the rest.

I admit right off the bat- Huge Kylie Gilmore fan here. I've read and enjoyed every single book that came my way from her last year. Of course I was excited to hear a new series was coming out, and especially that it was a Clover Park spin off.

As per usual, Kylie's story was full of laughs and sizzle. Stud Unleashed: Barry is a sexy, funny romp about opposites attract, but it's so much more as well. It's emotional, it's engaging, it's witty. I have one problem. I've now finished each and every Stud book already so I don't know what to do with myself. The badgering will commence.

Barry is a geek in so many ways, but he's also got the BIGGEST heart. Even with the best of intentions, Barry's plans sometimes goes very wrong. Amber has a lot of spunk, and she's got a little bit of a wild streak, and she's also very creative. She's found a great friend in Barry. Could there be so much more?

These two compliment each other in every way. I enjoyed the journey of Amber and Barry breaking down walls and falling in love. Gilmore's story flows with ease and I found myself unable to put it down. I don't reread often, but I have a feeling I'm not going to be able to resist unleashing the stud that is Barry a handful of times. This story touched my heart. Something about the way these two fell in love really made me feel good inside. I love a good opposites attract story, and this one was that and more.

Am I rambling? Why yes, I believe I am. I just can't get enough of this story. It's going down as my all time favorite book from Kylie and I think everyone should have this stud on their TBR piles.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
