In part maybe to help many others whose family was a victim of Harvey's years before Tere and only now do they know truth. Or possibly to stop him this time for good,or maybe it was so her own family lived on because Terry Jo refused to die too. A remarkable child faced with horrific tragedy lives on to become a remarkable reminder that love triumphs over hate, mercy over hate and good over greed!
It could benefit from some better editing, but that's a minor point.
To wonder how any human could continue,to carry on and survive to
arrive alive at the end...Get your book today, it's perhaps the best book I've ever read....
Her survival on a tiny floating device after four days and nights in the open Atlantic uncovered evil in the person of Julian Harvey, an extremely handsome body builder serial husband of six while a gourmet of many other women. Harvey earned a degree in Aeronauical Engineering from Purdue University. He had been a combat flying hero in 30 missions in his B-24 over Europe in WWII and then 114 more missions as a fighter pilot in the Korean War. Logan correctly provides Harvey the underlying psychiatric label of narcissistic-personality disorder. Tere was given the accurate diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She responded well to talk psychotherapy. Harvey may have also had PTSD.
The authors provide a highly plausible motive and time-line for the sinking, deaths, and tragedy assoicated with the sailboat Bluebelle. God is found in Chapter Eight but does not play the large role that He did in the recent best-selling sea survival books, the non-fiction UNBROKEN and the novel LIFE OF PI which was made into a fine film. These two books prompted my successful internet search in December 2012 for Tere based on my old memories of over 30 years ago.
I was then the pediatrician at the U.S. Army Hospital in West Berlin in 1980 who is noted on page 166 as having a small but significant role in Tere's life. She lent me her large box of fading clippings and scrapbook which detailed her heroic adventures. I read them all, referred her to a colleague who could provide much overdue help, and urged her to have her story written and published to inspire and help others. I gave her the name of Tommy Thompson (1933-1982) who was a very well known non-fiction writer of popular and thoroughly researched books such as heart transplant surgeons (HEARTS)and murder and wealth in Texas (BLOOD AND MONEY). Tere finally found an equally talented co-author for her book.
Tere, along with a number of other patients and their families, inspired me througout my long career. Her purpose in life is seen through the lives of her three children and the inspiration that she gives all of us to do our best despite the circumstances. This book warrants a film.
