Daria, a veterinarian, has a dream. She dreams of a luxury shelter for dogs and cats, a place where they will be safe, warm, pampered; a place for them to stay until they are found good homes. All she needs to see her dream come true is money, and that means going out begging for donations from the wealthy, something Daria dreads but is rather good at. She has an escort, a guide of sorts, a man comfortable among the wealthy, but he's the wrong man.
The right man, Pauly, is a mechanic. Daria assumes he's poor, a blue collar kind of guy. Pauly has never been an animal lover. He's allergic to dogs, cats, all furry animals. But he's very interested in the beautiful veterinarian, Daria, and if he has to suffer a little sneezing and an itchy nose, then so be it.
Daria doesn't trust Pauly's motives, his interest in her. She questions why he would want to involve himself in her quest to save the animals. He's gorgeous, generous, thoughtful, and has a knack of coming to her rescue. Daria isn't used to support or help from anyone. This is a love story about trust, dreams, causes and obligations. It will give you a warm and fuzzy feeling all over. I give Along Came Pauly four stars.
In Chris Redding's Along Came Pauly, we meet Daria. She's a beautiful red headed veterinarian who spends all of time healing animals and raising money for her animal shelter. She has no time for men, who don't approve of her prioritizing her beloved animals before her love life. However, she enjoys a symbiotic relationship with the well-to-do investment banker, Samuel. He needs a show stopping "plus one" at all of his required social events, while she needs the coveted entrance to schmooze the rich and convince them to donate money to a worthy cause, her animal shelter.
Little does she know, a man named Pauly stops dead in his tracks when he sees her at an event with Samuel. Pauly is heir to his now deceased father's vast estate. But there's one catch to receiving his inheritance--he must choose a worthy charity which has special meaning to him and donate substantial funds anonymously. Determined to meet the girl of his dreams. He finds out her identity and heads over to Daria's vet practice. But on his way, a dog crosses his path which needs a vet.
As Daria leaves her vet practice, dressed to the nine for an "A" list event, she spots a man and his injured dog walking into the vet for treatment. She stabilizes the dog and assumes that Pauley is its owner. An urgent phone call brings her to a house full of dogs to rescue. Pauly tags along and a minor car wreck reveals he's fixes cars. Daria presumes the mechanic is poor, but likes the idea. Daria and Pauly begin a relationship and fall for one another quickly. But she learns of Pauly's wealth and that he intends to give up the rescue dog which brought them together. Their newfound love is tested.
I literally couldn't put this book down and found myself finishing it in the wee hours of the morning. Along Came Pauly is a fantastic boy meets girl story with twists and turns along the way in their relationship that kept me guessing and pulling for them to make it. Chris's descriptive writing made me feel like I was attending the fancy fund raiser with Daria and all of her glamour. The attention to detail allowed me to easily visualize each setting, like the vet and animal shelter, and Pauly's mansion. I highly recommend Along Came Pauly and look forward to reading more of Chris Redding's stories.
