I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, other than the f-bombs dropped. As I am a huge Austen fan, I was quickly able to find each character within these pages. Yes, there is everyone from Lizzie, Jane, Darcy, Wyckham, & the Collins'. I laughed & cringed at some of the parallels between the modern and original P&P. The drinking behavior would never have been tolerated in Austen's time, but neither would the living together & sex.
Was life better for lizabeth in one age vs another? Yes. Both ages have their own pros and cons, but there is no absolute best age. The manners were impeccable then, the education now. The complete choice of partners now vs then is extremely different, but marriages were made as a lifelong promise.
I invite you to decide for yourself by reading this book. I feel that the author has put together a good modern version of Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
A cute, modern day retelling of Pride and Prejudice set on a college campus.
The book follows the plot of Pride and Prejudice pretty closely. I enjoyed the setting of a college campus and the Greek System. I thought the writing was a bit stuffy for Greek life on a college campus. I liked Lizbeth, but Wil was not my favorite. The story was good, but the execution could have been better.
Phi Alpha Pi is a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It is set on a college campus and the main characters are in In the spirit of full disclosure, I did not finish this book. Actually I didn’t read much of it. I could not get passed the stilted dialogue. It was really kind of jarring. At times it was difficult to discern who was talking, and what they were talking about. I really wanted to love this book. I am a HUGE Jane Austen fan and enjoy most retellings. This one just missed the mark. If you are a diehard Austen fan, you might be able to stick this one out, I just couldn’t. I plan to give her other books a try at some point.
