Normally when I read a book from any author and it happens in Sue Brown's books as well, I can usually pick who my favorite character is. I don't have one. I love them all. Except the bad guys. Especially one of them after what they did. Can't tell you, that would be spoiling.
This is such a must read.
Jake and Mitch's relationship is like a thunderstorm. Thunder one minute and just the sound of a soothing rain the next. I really loved these two together. I suppose you could say that about the relationship of the whole team. That's what family does, they argue but when one is in trouble the rest come calling.
The whole story is set in motion years ago when Jake finds his brother-in-law (as well as teammate and best friend) standing over his wife’s (Jake’s sister) body with a knife. He automatically assumes the man he has known and worked with for years and trusted with his life on numerous occasions, just magically snapped and killed his wife. With only circumstantial evidence at best.
With Riley escaped from prison, the whole team descends on Jake’s bar, and Jake immediately doesn’t want them there - it’s the life he left behind when his sister died, including Mitch, his former lover. Jake jerks back and forth on whether he is happy that they are there, particularly Mitch. Enough wishywashyness that I wanted to shake him.
Overall, the book was just OK - I felt like I had read similar stuff before.
