I think this was supposed to be a dark erotica. That's not how it read. Words that describe this book are clunky, shallow, weird, stupid, and unrealistic. We start with a girl who is an investigative journalist. We know she's an investigative journalist (versus a sports journalist or a society pages writer) because she uses the whole phrase "investigative journalist" every time she refers to her career. She refers to her career a lot. She is somehow convinced at the 11th hour to sub for her stripper roommate at a bachelor party that night. Now I don't know about you all, but even if I had the body, there is no way I would feel coordinated enough to get up in front of people and do a quality bump'n'grind. I just don't have those skills, but whatever- she enjoyed her spring breaks in college. She meets a man at the party and awkward dialogue ensues. He's insulting to her, and not in a clever cocky ruler-of-the-business-world kind of way, it was more like snotty things a junior high kid would say. Somehow the awkward dialogue does it for her and she agrees to go to this man's house. She has no idea where the house is. We presumably start in Manhattan and then end up in a palatial manor but she doesn't know where. Of course reaching any palatial manors from Manhattan requires a bit more than a 10min drive, so not noticing your surroundings even once is a little odd. We get to the house and have more clunky dialogue. Our mystery man takes out some chains, yes CHAINS, and proceeds to talk about them cryptically. And again this isn't tortured-soul-exposing-himself and we find it frightening but alluring, no this is our 8 year-old cousin Teddy drawing a handlebar mustache on his upper lip, dawning a black cape, and delivering lines he imagines are villainous and foreshadowing. At this point I think to myself, "this is weird! I would make some polite excuses, go to the bathroom, crawl out the window, and book it to the closest police station." Then we meet our man's driver/security. He point blank tells the heroine this is a bad situation and she should leave for her safety. FOR YOUR SAFETY! HINT!! HINT!!!!! Somehow this warning completely fails to register. And then the author gives us several pages of bad unprotected sex. Yay! It was filled with lines like "he kissed me hard" and "I was wet". Descriptive but not really evocative. I didn't feel anything for the sex scenes. It probably doesn't help that we never get good descriptions of what our characters look like. Then we flash forward to the morning after. Our heroine wakes up to allegations from her date that she's a prostitute, which she is mortally offended by, but still she's willing to consider more sex with the man. The driver pops up with more cryptic warnings, this time suggesting that the guy has killed his ex-girlfriend. Again she chooses not to freak out and run!! The driver then manhandles her sexually, and there is more clunky, juvenile dialogue "I want to leave." "That's not happening" "Why?" "Go take a shower". And all this time the heroine never reaches a point of true panic where she tries to climb out a window. She just spends the whole time getting involuntarily aroused by these two men and gasping. OMG the gasping! This woman gasps at least once a paragraph! She's going to give herself gas from swallowing all that air.

So yes, for being totally unrealistic, poorly written, poorly developed, and lacking in depth or richness I give this 99 cent morsel 1 star. I wish I had those minutes of my life back. I am yet again reminded why self-published authors should be stamped with a big red "proceed with caution".

cliffhangers drive me crazy. I am not a patient person. Especially when it comes to wonderful books, captivating characters that take you an emotional rollercoaster. I liked Evie. I could see how easily a girl could make one choice one night that can change your life. I want more of this book. like now LOL.

Grant is a little scary, but so is his driver/body guard. I want to see where Cooper will take this series.

Is this another one of those books written by a bunch of frat boys as a joke? The whole premise is more of a serial killer nightmare story. The girl is just stupid and makes worse and worse choices. Bad sex. Repeatedly. "Show me the money" should be the title. The guy is physco and not in a sexy, misunderstood hero way. He's Just CRAZY. And the new guy coming in seems just as bad. No depth. No depth at all.
Even without the terrible characters, the plot just contradicts itself and frankly, my dear, I quit giving a damn. If this was the authors first attempt, I hope for her career that they get a lot better.

I have never left a one-star review for a book before. Part of the reason for this is that I think different people enjoy different things, so whether a book is "good" or not is very subjective. When I saw all of the good reviews though, I just could not imagine that that many people enjoyed this and thought it would be a disservice to NOT write a review.
I just didn't care about any of these characters. The heroine, supposedly an intelligent journalist, shows absolutely no common sense at all. Not only does she agree to be a stripper for one night, but she leaves the job with a complete stranger and goes to his house with his offer of money. She is then outraged when he considers her to be a prostitute. Ummm..... what else would he possibly think? He wraps heavy chains around himself not once, but twice. Is this supposed to be sexy? I didn't find it sexy, or "alpha" or anything else. He supposedly makes her so angry that she sees red, but she's still willing to have sex with him immediately after that. He then tells her she can't leave, which should scare the hell out of any normal woman, but she's just fine with that, even after his employee suggests that he killed the last women he brought home. She gets turned on, against her will, by both the "hero" and his employee, and it's just not sold to us at all. Very bad dialogue, actions that have no basis at all in reality and characters that you care nothing about. This book was just bad in my opinion and I would recommend against it.
