Quality design & materials, easy to use, easy to clean

I bought this to squeeze juice from ginger root, which is very tough and fibrous, so I wasn't sure if it would work. It works like a charm! From the initial opening of the package to the final cleaning of the residue, here are the things I particularly liked about this "garlic" press:
1) It's well packaged--both attractive and practical.
2) The materials are quality. Not only is the press well designed and manufactured--very sturdy--but the hinged parts move easily.
3) It has great leverage and it works! I'm fairly strong, but my hands are a little arthritic, so it's not like I can apply the oomph of a blacksmith to make this work, especially with something as resistant as ginger root. Applying the strength that I have, the ginger root juiced right out. A little surprised, somewhat amazed, and very pleased.
4) Then there's the cleaning, which is usually a big ick for such things--especially with the ginger root fibers wedged through the little holes. It took a bit of application, but rinsing and using the little brush provided, the press clean up nicely.

I cook all the time. Not only do I prepare all of our meals from scratch due to family diet issues, but I have a large, organic garden and I preserve food from it all the time. I love food with flavor so I use lots of peppers, onions, ginger and garlic! I have worn out several garlic presses in my lifetime. The last one literally broke when I tried to press ginger into some water kefir. Tired of cheap crap, I got decided to find a quality garlic press. Noting the life time guarantee, I purchased the Alpha Grillers Garlic Press and Peeler Set about a year and a half ago and have been using it just about daily ever since for both garlic and ginger. It is fantastic!

WHAT IS IN THE BOX: Beautifully presented in a lovely gift box, I received both the stainless steel garlic press plus a silicone tube garlic peeler.

WHAT I LIKE: I have been using this garlic press for a year and a half and it looks as nice today as it did when I bought it. It shows absolutely no signs of wear.

This press feels solid and durable in my hand. Use has proven it so.

The stainless steel construction allows me to wash this in the dishwasher and I do. Every time I use it.

The silicone garlic peeler is much nicer than I expected. Every year I make a couple of gallons of homemade salsa and peeling the garlic took forever in the past. I started using the silicone peeler for my garlic and it revolutionized my garlic peeling process. It works fast!

Because I am no longer replacing my garlic press every couple of years, I will save money.

This press works for ginger as well as garlic. I have used it with ginger a few times and there isn’t the slightest bulge or bow where the garlic/ginger comes out.

I am normally wary of rounded handles like this because they can hold water when washed. I have NEVER had any water issues with this press.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE: I love this garlic press. There is nothing I do not like.

PICTURES: I am including various pictures of the press in my hand for a size reference. I have small hands. I also have a picture of the part that extrudes the garlic. It shows no signs of wear after a year and a half of constant use.

I purchased the Alpha Grillers Garlic Press and Peeler Set at FULL PRICE. I love this set and highly recommend it. It definitely deserves 5 stars!

Great for making alot of minced garlic

Initially, when I first used it, I was confused because not a lot of garlic was coming out when I pressed a single clove... but then I realized that this little machine is for making alot of minced garlic. I recommend using the peeler they give you, otherwise you won't get too many Garlic cloves through before you have to dump out the peels. But if you continually use a new peeled garlic clove, the next clove, will help push out what remained from the first garlic clove, So once you're done mincing all your garlic you have a net waste of only 1/2 of a garlic clove. Its actually a pretty good system. You don't have to push very hard. I also tried it with Ginger and it works pretty well... I've never used one of these before, so I can't really compare it to other garlic presses, but It was made out of a good quality metal, and there wasn't any spray backwards when I pressed. (This was initially a concern for me, particularly for the ginger). The peeler was really cool. You just stick a clove in there, and you press it with your palm and roll it around, and in less than a second the thing is peeled. The peels stick to the internal walls of the peeler through their own static charge, and then you just smack it over your trash can to make them all fall out.

This is one of those products that makes you wonder why you waited so long to buy one. Maybe you just never bought one after moving out of your parents house or maybe yours broke at some point along the way and you just never replaced it. But it's amazing!

It's very simple to use. The peeler can consistently peel about 2 cloves at a time. The press really varies on how much you can do at one time - I've been able to fit 1-3 cloves at a time. Both pieces are very easy to clean.

Overall, I really love how much easier this product makes my life. Definitely recommend for everyone from the occasional garlic eater to the home chef who uses garlic several times a week!

Pretty poor really. After having this for 6 weeks or so I've bought another garlic press from IKEA for £2.50 and it is vastly superior in performance. The trouble with this one is that only 75% of the squashed garlic comes out of the holes, the rest oozes out all around the squeezing part. Also it seems to me to bend rather a lot when I squeeze hard and so I can't see it lasting very long. The IKEA one seems much better made and performs better too!

Bought this and used it the day I got it. Certainly does the job and the instructions are actually friendly and funny (you'll see what I mean if you buy one). I used this for 2 cloves at a time and it had no problem mincing this ... It does suffer the same way all garlic crushers do ... you have to pick the skin out of the crusher basket after a couple of cloves. However that aside it feels very firm and feels like it will last a long time. The garlic peeler is good and washes easily. All in all I can recommend them all.

This garlic press arrived beautifully packaged and did not disappoint. The peeler tube is a simple design and works really well, saving loads of time previously spent peeling cloves with a small knife.
The press itself is the best I have ever purchased. I have owned many garlic crushers over the years, and they all had one thing in common. When crushing large amounts of garlic, the pulp wouldn't all go through the holes in the press. A fair bit would escape up the sides of the press and would make a bit of a mess. Also if you didn't want to lose half the crushed garlic, you would have to spend time removing garlic from the outside of the press, and pushing it back into the receptacle with a knife to be pushed through the holes.
With this garlic press the press itself is a perfect fit and all of the pulp is pushed through the holes with one push, negating the need to be fiddling with a small knife to push half crushed garlic back into the press receptacle.
Great design and a real time saver for a cook who uses a great deal of garlic in his cooking. Highly recommended.

Presses garlic well, but a pain to clean.

Had high expectations after reading about it, but as mentioned in many other reviews the garlic 'basin' is a bad design.

With the way the metal folds together in the corners but is not welded or sealed together, you have to spend a few minutes after every use picking out all the skin from between the gaps. Really takes away from the convenience this press is meant to give, and have found myself going back to just dicing garlic with a knife.

Shame, as the pressed garlic that does come through is great, and very nice to cook with. But, for me, cleaning the press makes it not worth it.

It's very solid, can crush as much garlic as you can fit in and have the grip strength for, and feels like it will last forever. The holes in the press give just the right mixture of grating the garlic and pressing the garlic to release the juices, I've chopped garlic by hand for decades because "who needs a garlic press?" but the flavour is actually noticeably better.
