The detachable hood of the cwu 45p was originally contracted to alpha in 1984- this jacket was inspired by that detachable hood and the classic 45p flight jacket that is known as the winter weight flight jacket. The lightweight summer version of the cwu was the jacket that became famous after the release of top gun in 1986. This hooded military fashion version will keep you warm, dry and comfortable.

The Material: It has a nice durable fabric similar to a carhartt jacket. The stitching seems pretty solid. I have only had one small pull on a thread so far. I bought this jacket knowing that the fur trim on the hood was removable. That was a big plus and I removed it first thing. I was happy to find that the inside of the hood itself is lined with black fur that keeps your head nice and toasty. The zipper is super heavy duty and rough enough to grate a wedge of Parmesan cheese if you ever needed to.
Warmth: This jacket is warm! I wear this jacket regularly in cold weather. On a recent trip, it was tested in rainy and snowy weather that was 10 degrees below freezing. Even with pouring rain this jacket kept me warm. Although not truly waterproof, this jacket is water resistant. The wind was whipping the rain in sideways and my denim jeans got soaked. My jacket on the other hand repelled a lot of the rain and kept all layers inside warm and dry. The jacket zips up high and has some fur lining high on the collar to keep you warm. Additionally, there are two draw strings for the hood that can be pulled and tied together to keep the wind out.
Other Notes: The jacket contains one pocket inside on the left breast side as well as 4 pockets on the outside breasts, with an additional small pocket on the left hand upper sleeve. The sleeve pocket also contains pen holder slots as well. The two flap pockets on the front are secured by velcro and are very convenient for lots of items. I was able to fit a pair of large men's gloves(light-medium thickness) inside one pocket on a recent trip. The other 2 additional pockets are smaller hand warmer pockets. The entrance to these pockets is on the small side, but once you get your hand in there is plenty of room for large hands. They are also very warm, even though the insides are made from the same material as the jacket's exterior.
Overall a great coat and I hope to wear it for a long time.
good. I recommend trying this one on before making a decision as to size. It looks Great with the Fur removed from the hood.
arm length is just good,,, chest size & overall back size are somewhat tight (not short).
