From the Back Cover
Fear has a scent. So does desire...
Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it's almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before--and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.
The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate--his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.
But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor's future, but the lives of the entire pack...

Alpha Instinct is a great start to a paranormal series, it had everything I needed to get addicted and left out the over the top complexity that would have been a turn off. Katie Reus’ shifters might be a mostly male dominated society but that didn’t mean that the females were slouches. Ana managed to keep her pack together for quite some time before Connor showed up to help and even when he did assume the role of pack Alpha it didn’t mean that Ana just threw herself at him and let him solve all her problems, she insisted on being part of the decision making process and demanded Connor’s respect because she was an Alpha too.
That’s where a lot of their conflict came from though. Connor wanted to show Ana that he was different than when she first met him and that he was capable of protecting her and her pack that he often bulldozed right over her in the mule headed male way which of course didn’t sit well with Ana. Connor’s problem was that he was so focused on how to prove that he could be an Alpha that he wasn’t paying attention to the fact that a good alpha listens to his pack and especially to the woman that he wants as a mate. He was a bit of a control freak and almost didn’t realize he was pushing Ana away but later it started to become clear that Connor was motivated by fear and insecurity. He genuinely cared about what happened to Ana and her pack and was scared he wasn’t going to be enough to protect them once it was revealed that they had more than just a rival pack as enemies. I liked him even with his stubborn ways.
With Alpha Instinct being the first book in the Moon Shifter series there were plenty of supporting characters to meet and I really enjoyed them all. Ana’s pack was an interesting mix of personalities since some of the females were Beta wolves and some were Alpha. The combination really made the pack dynamic work and the way Reus portrayed the beta wolves was great. They weren’t as physically strong as their alpha counterparts but they were what essentially brought the pack together with their kindness and intelligence.
The pacing and plot of Alpha Instinct kept me intrigued and entertained from start to finish and I loved how the author kept some things secret until the very last moment, it added to the suspense and was part of what made the book work for me. I don’t like knowing all the answers right away.
Final Verdict: Definitely a strong, interesting start to the series. Hopefully I’ll be able to feature the rest of the series as part of Throwback Thursday Reviews.
Drove me NUTZ!!! They could make anyone a lil crazed from their constant
needless drama, yes NEEDLESS!!! when almost 1/2 the "drama" in the book it the
two MC's micro analyzing every thought action and slightest behavior and then
using it as a reason to draw conclusions and then acting out on it like a pair of
immature children ,it can make your nuttier than a Squirrel shifter at a Peanut
festival.... especially when all the two idiots need to do is sit down and talk to each other
NOT at /but with and to and everything would/might be sorted out and ok..... but NOOOOOO
let's micro analyze and jump to constant conclusions about each other, even when just about everything
that can go wrong will go wrong :(
WHAT.THE.FRUCK!!!! it was Nucking Futs :( everyboy and their Brother (sheriff) and excluding the
Government seemed to out to get them..the plot felt all other the place at times and if the two Main
Characters are gonna have a freakin line of ppl out to get them, neighboring Alpha psycho and his pack,
Hate groups, another crazed psycho out to kill all Shifters and Liam and his mate drama...aaaaaaaaaaa...
too much BS drama...80% through the book and Connor and Ana can't sit down and be honest for 5 minutes
and become a untied mated couple/front and deal with all the other BS as a team..No for to ppl who are supposed to be
"fated mates" they fight with each other as much as anyone else... BS.. this is supposed to be FUN!!! a fantasy to help
me escape my stress NOT ADD TO IT!!! Now I know it can be fun at ti mes to get caught up in the troubles of you fave
characters but NOT THESE TWO. they were just too too stubborn and stupid and honestly NOT worth my time :(
off to delete and maybe get my money back :(
While Connor and the pack tries to figure out who is poisoning their pack mates, a crazy psychotic wolf tries to take their land and he was Ana too.
This was a fantastic book with Alphas, a little she-cat, sexual tension that will singe your eyebrows. It really did keep me on the edge of my seat.
