I’ve always loved, and of course believed in, the idea of soul mates, and the author’s concept of “heartmates” is similar, with the exception that, if lost, a vampire will most likely go insane. We saw this in the very first book, and it continues to be a very serious point in each book. The sweet love story fulfilled my every romantic whim, and the steamy hot sex scenes (there are plenty!) with the studly Alpha, are engaging. There’s also a realistic villain, which the author brings to life with a skillful vividness, to add plenty of suspense and danger. Fantastic read!
There are two previous books in the Alpha Council Chronicles, but this book can be read alone or you can start at the beginning and read book one. Either way you wont be disappointed. Nicholai has waited for centuries to find the woman of his heart, Julia, once they are together on the pages, the scenes heat up scorch the pages.
I enjoyed this book. It's and excellent addition to the series. If you haven't read book one you might want to start there and read all three. I promise you wont be disappointed!!!
As in the previous two books in the Alpha Council Chronicles series, the author continues to paint word pictures that bring paranormal characters to life, making vampires seem human, even likeable. The characters display all human emotions, including love, passion, lust, jealousy, anger, and patience. Nicholai Peterhof has waited for centuries to find his heartmate. Once he meets his Julia, the scenes heat up as he pursues the one person who perfectly completes him. One of my favorite word pictures is “The sound of Julie’s laughter raced down Nicholai’s spine, leaving tiny footprints of happiness in its wake.” I can see happiness ripple through tall, muscular, handsome Nicholai at the sound of Julie’s laughter. No sooner had I adjusted to the possibility that vampires frequent the night, when Ms. Sparks introduced another breed of paranormal – demons – who are trying to capture vampires for medical experimentation and elimination. Now members of the Alfa Council, who specialize in policing rogue vampires, have to go on the defense to protect themselves and their heartmates from this hidden threat. If you want to know more, you will have to read it for yourself.
What I found refreshing about this story is that the heroine is not the usual young woman with the perfect figure and flawless everything. She's older and has--perish the thought--curves! She also has a meddling best friend and some serious emotional scars, which make her feel entirely real. I also enjoyed all the details about Russia. The settings come alive with vivid details.
This book can be read by itself, but characters that appeared in previous books in the series put in appearances and, presumably, characters that will figure into future books are introduced.
