One of the complaints I hear from romance readers is how men real life rarely mirror men in fiction. Laurel Ulen Curtis' A IS FOR ALPHA is a fun filled adventure about two women looking for their own fiction inspired heroes.

Haley Whitfield and her mother Allison are big Kristen Ashley fans. When Haley voices her frustration about a date she's just had, Allison suggests they take a vacation and Haley agrees. Before they embark on their grand adventure they make a list using the alphabet with the characteristics they want their ultimate dream hunk to be. First on the list is Alpha because the entire purpose of this trip is to find someone who is just like a Kristen Ashley hero. There's one slight problem, Haley finds someone she really likes, but he just doesn't fit the Kristen Ashley hero mold. What's a girl to do? Dismissing him from her mind she and Allison head west towards California. Will Haley and Allison find their dream hunks or will they realize that some men are better left to the world of fiction?

Firstly, let me just say I really enjoyed this! I haven't laughed so much reading in quite awhile and even though I've never read Kristen Ashley, I don't feel it's necessary to do in order to fully appreciate A IS FOR ALPHA. This is very much a love letter to Ashley and I think any romance fan will walk away appreciating their favorite romance author a little more. Secondly, if you've read any of Curtis' previous novels then you're pretty familiar with her writing style. This one is different and much more flirtatious. You can really tell she had a lot of fun writing this.

We have good character development though a few secondary characters could have had more screen time. Despite this being about Haley and Allison's grand adventure, it really is Haley's journey.

I love Kristen Ashley books. I've read everyone of them...twice. I love the premise of A is for Alpha Male, and all it's twists and turns. I also appreciate that the author is not attempting to copy Kristen Ashley's story lines (although many of her endearments were swiped). Besides "bottom of my heart" and other signature Kristen Ashley sayings, this book did not read as an imitation of her work.

The big rub for me is the heroine. Haley is beyond annoying, and is simply obnoxious. She is not funny, witty, or endearing. Her "this is just who I am" was unpalatable considering she is a 27 year old woman. There was a deficit in her maturity that rivaled her lack of wit (snark does not equate with wit when it lacks humor).

The heroine was the ultimate big miss of the story. Yes Kristen Ashley books have strong willed and quirky heroines, but they are actually likable and endearing. Haley was never "off" to give you a break to actually like her. You can easily see why she was 27 and single, and her "too much to handle" personality was indeed too much. I enjoyed everything else about the book and characters, but had to turn it into a power-skim because of Haley.

If you are looking for a book to consume your every thought, desire, vicariousness, then look no further. Because this is the shiznit right here, for serious! I absolutely adored this lighthearted carefree read. It had every component that calls out to me in books. Especially with the characters being freaking redic (in the best way possible)!

Mamalicious, as Haley likes to call her, is our Mother Hen in this fantastic voyage---> insert Coolio here! She is the mother every adult child would die to have. She keeps you on your toes and can be your saving grace too. Dan Smith the hero/bartender extraordinaire had me totally lusting after him, from start until finish. Damn, he is something. Then you have Haley, our witty sarcastic heroin, who just had me laughing, snorting, giggling, and giving me the rush to be just as spontaneous! These three filled my pages with some wild and zany adventures, crazy fun, and had me relishing over everything that transpired between these fun loving individuals.

I could not read the pages fast enough, I needed to know what would happen next. I needed to have that divine feeling that life was always going to be so carefree. I needed more of Haley, Mamalicious, Dan, their spontaneity, and just the humor and sarcasm. I was filled with so many fantasmic emotions, that I just wanted to jump into the book and go with them on their travels--for cereal! I pretty much highlighted just about every passage in this book, little quotes, big quotes, basically any quotes that had me in awe with the well written story! I am so looking forward to reading the next books in the continuation of this series....each have their very own hidden secrets that I cannot wait to know more about.

This was the first book I read from Author Laurel Curtis, but I am gong to check out her other books. Where to start well In a book group on FB Ricki Wieselthier would post daily teasers about this book. So when it went live I 1-clicked. She told me I would undertsand what the letters meant , well she was right. OMG this is a Must read. I laughed about 50% of the time maybe more and I mean LOL kind of laugh. The story line I loved, you have Haley and her Mother Allison who love to read mostly romance but their favorite Author was Kristen Ashley books. All her Alpha Males were their dream guy (Book Boyfriends) like many of us call them. So Haley is single Allison recently Divorced they decide to go on a road trip / vacation in search of their perfect Alpha Male so they make a List of the characteristic's they are looking for starting with the Letter A all the way to Z baste on the Book Boyfriends. Well first stop the State of Alabama were Haley meets the Bartender Danny he does not fit the list even down to his plain name. You see Danny over heard Haley and Allison run through their list and he has a great memory. He starts a conversation with Haley about her list. They become buddys like fast Friends after spending time together Haley starts to feel something for Danny but he doesnt fit her list, so her and her Mother move on to their next destination but Danny wants to help find the right guy so he reads the books to get a better understanding. So this is a road trip you really Want to go along with. You will Laugh but you will get a great story. Must read I was recomennding this Book to my friends and I was only 20% into it. This book needs 10 stars and if it under 3 stars then that peron in my option just doesnt get it. Well done Laurel Curtis.
