About this item
- The iLX-F309 is an AM/FM/audio/video receiver with a 9-inch WVGA touch screen and mech-less design
- The iLX-F309 also has Bluetooth wireless technology with audio streaming, a built-in HD Radio tuner, and is SiriusXM Ready
- It uses a 1-DIN chassis for installation but the screen “hovers” in front of the vehicle’s dash, allowing the oversize screen to be added to a variety of vehicles without the need for custom installation.
- Once installed, the screen and mount are fixed to the chassis for a sturdy installation. The screen hovers over or in front of the dash while its rear housing tapers off cleanly at the edges for a thin and modern silhouette.
- The iLX-F309 has a suite of entertainment features. Its mech-less design is suited for smartphone compatibility through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with the Google Assistant.

Maps, be it WAZE, APPLE MAPS, or GOOGLE MAPS, all display washed out during DAY MODE. You can barely see the streets you are driving on, unless the street is displayed by either of those apps with darker lines (see image). I tried explaining this to Alpine's Customer Support/Tech Service and the experience was horrible. I wanted to swap my 8.4 UAQ UCONNECT on my 2016 RAM1500 so that I could have Carplay, but I will have to return this unit. Having said that, the unit clearly has tons of potential, but because you rely entirely on maps through CARPLAY, this unit is unusable. As such, I don't recommend anyone buying it.
Overall the unit works well and I added the Alpine HCE-C1100 HDR Rear View Camera as well so I have excellent back up vision even in direct sunlight. Only thing that made me sad was they left out the wireless Apple CarPlay, which was already out in the BMW cars over a year ago... For being their newest, latest and greatest that really should have been included for the price. So for me I have an ugly cable hanging under the unit to plug into my phone if I want to use the Apple Navigation or iTunes, so for that reason I only gave it 3 stars for value. Wireless CarPlay is a software patch so maybe they will offer it later in an update...
As far as function goes the design really does offer compatibility with almost any car install. It only uses a single DIN slot (I did buy the double to single DIN adapter kit for the Hummer in advance), and both the height adjustments and the angle adjustments really offer something that most other systems cannot match. Once you find the height level that keeps this unit clear of your vents and control buttons for the ac/heat of your car you lock this down and it stays put. The angle tilt is also locked down and a nice option so you don't get a ton of glare from the sun.
Response on the touch screen is excellent! Once I hook up the cable to my iPhone I can have texts verbally, navigation via Apple maps and all my iTunes music & playlists and there are alot of other apps I can upload but I haven't found the need yet. No video output though even if using a cable....
On a side note I did loose my DVD player that came with the Hummer when the factory stereo was removed, and this Halo 9 unit does not use cds or dvds so currently my ceiling monitor is disconnected. Later on I will add a dvd player somewhere to return that functionality. Also I initially I added the Maestro interface kit to control and monitor different car functions and it worked well but I also have a tuner on my truck that uses the OBD port also and having that and the Maestro caused conflicts that couldn't be resolved. Removed the Maestro and everything went back to normal. I am pretty sure that if you aren't using a tuner box on your vehicle you will enjoy the Maestro system upgrade if you can afford it.
So to sum up the unit itself does work quite well. It offers tons of customisations and addons oh and also you get the app for your phone that you can "tune" the system to your car! Love that! Alot of people upload the settings they like for cars the same or similar to yours and you just upload them and test them and keep the one you like. Added much better base response and punch versus anything I could manually put in. Enjoyed testing that out. So if you are in the market for a large screen stereo system with most of the current tech included you really will like this system. If they either lower the price or add the wireless Apple CarPlay option you will LOVE THIS SYSTEM!! Enjoy :)
Also the Carplay maps are displayed very bright, you can’t even use them.
