In writing this book The Altar Call the author depicts many characters from all walks of life. Each of them seeking the same things forgiveness and healing. I related to several of the characters in the book. The authors characters lives are painted vividly and the pain they suffer. She keeps you captivated. I was in tears many times. Little did I know in reading it that a healing was beginning to happen in my own life. I would definitely say it is a good read. I recommend it to anyone who has suffered great pain in their lives and have many wounds that need to be healed.

When seminary graduate Rick Davis becomes the new pastor of a small town, he has his work cut out for him. Lakewood, Illinois is full of guarded hearts, desperate for renewal. As Rick prays for a revival among the people, one church service breaks the monotonous, uneventful pattern; people come to the altar. One by one each heart-wrenching tale is told. The characters struggle with a variety of subjects, such as rape, murder, divorce, drug abuse, prostitution, and mental illness. Bringing these topics to the light reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles.
I found myself in tears many times throughout the book. But by the end, I had begun to heal from my own hurts that I'd kept hidden throughout the years. This book marks a milestone in my life. It is my hope that others will find the same peace. Give it a shot; you won't regret it.

Never did I expect to be touched so deeply by the stories in this book. I downloaded it as a free read and thought it would be nice. Wow! The author has crafted characters about which a person can identify with as well as feel deeply. I am normally a fast reader but I had to take my time with this book. For days after reading the stories of various characters I found myself thinking about them.

There are some typos and grammatical errors but they don't detract from the intensity of the stories. My only complaint was that several pages were missing from Lynn's story so I couldn't read it. Once that is corrected I will go back to read her story as I really want to finish it. Don't miss the opportunity for a great reading experience!

Amy Levi has written a thought-provoking novel that reaches the depths and heights of the human existence. The Alter Call touches on all walks of life and runs a course from total despair to hope and redemption.

When newly ordained Rich Davis becomes the pastor of a Lakewood, Illinois church, he finds a congregation plagued with the effects of rape, child abuse, murder, substance abuse, prostitution, divorce and mental illness. These accounts give readers insights into their own miseries, their own heartaches, and the hope that awaits them through acceptance of God in their lives.

The Altar Call is a series of stores, culminating at Chapel by the Lake's altar with the spiritual guidance of Pastor Rich Davis.

Believers will find their faith strengthened with this book; non-believers will have opportunities to look at religion in a different light.
