The dock adapters fit, in my opinion, too securely. If your iPod doesn't fit in the one you've inserted, it takes a bit more effort than it should to get it out. But the dock adapters aren't really needed, because the iPod rests nicely in the impression.
The sound is clear and can get pretty loud, but the claim of deep bass, unless the unit requires a big burn-in time, is false. An iRhythms unit half the size of this one sounds much better in the same room, with the same iPod, playing the same music.
It's a good travel speaker, but not for those who like bass.
I can confirm that these Altec Lansing speakers will charge your iPod Nano 4th generation. See uploaded photo. I was actually assuming it wouldn't because the description only says compatible with "iPod nano 3rd gen".
These speaker sound good for their size. The "aux" in jack is on the back if you want to use these speakers for other types of mp3 player.
It's a nice looking, very compact unit. We were listening to the iM7 when it was delivered and as soon as I plugged in the new speakers, we moved the iPod to the new system. I'm not a sound snob, but it sounded like an AM radio mono speaker. The bass was horrible! We switched back and forth, just to check the sound on different songs before deciding to return this product and try to find something with better sound.
The pros of this are:
1. it has pleasant sound for spoken word programs
2. the analog volume control is user friendly, but analog volume controls tend to develop static over time
3. it's incredibly efficient on 3 AA batteries.
I'm returning it and got instead the Altec Lansing inMotion Classic iM600 USB. This one is a much better buy, IMO. It's lighter, more compact for travel, has slightly better sound, has FM radio, comes with a rechargeable Li battery, and offers more controls and a remote.
The iM310 is just too big for what it does.

This speaker is great. It folds into a very compact box and can use AA batteries. It is slightly large and heavy to put in a suitcase. Read morePublished 5 months ago by Amazon Customer
