Interview with the Author
Q - Are these books for me?
A - Do you enjoy stories that make you question our hand in society's downfall?Do you like immersing yourself in post-apocalyptic dystopian adventures that deal with the gritty truth about our future survival? Do you want to read about real characters who will keep you up long past your bedtime? Do you enjoy mysteries, thrillers and science fiction with heart? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I'd say these books are definitely for you.
Q - What if I don't really like science fiction?
A - You don't have to be a super fan of science fiction, just love people and the connections between them. The Exilon 5 series books are character driven and while my stories are certainly categorised as science fiction, they are down to earth and very relatable. Many readers who have loved my series have not been fans of dystopian science fiction thrillers, post-apocalyptic conspiracy or space opera type stories. But after reading my books they are more than willing to give new sci-fi stories a go. If you love TV shows like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones or Marvel's Agents of Shield, you'll enjoy this series.
Q - Can I try something a little shorter to begin with?
A - Yes you can! You can get Derailed Conscience, my psychological science fiction thriller story for free here: smarturl.it/y31fek
Q - I loved the first three books in the Exilon 5 series and want more. Will you be writing any more books?
A - Yes. Quantum Silence will be the fourth book, set eight years after the end of Crimson Dawn. I will also be writing a fifth book in the series in 2018.
Q - What order should I read the books in?
A - It's better to read the books in this order: Echoes of Earth, New Origin, Becoming Human, Altered Reality, Crimson Dawn. While it is possible to read the books out of order, reading them in order will help you to understand who the characters are and the struggles they face.
Derailed Conscience is a standalone book and can be read at any time.
The Exilon 5 Series Order:
Echoes of Earth
Quantum Silence (coming May 2017)
Stand alone books
Derailed Conscience (Sequel coming in 2017)
Q- Are you writing anything else?
A - Yes, a young adult sci-fi series, beginning with Feeder, available from Amazon smarturl.it/feederamazon. It has been described as The Maze Runner meets The Hunger Games.
In 2017, I will be releasing two novellas from that world and the second book, Breeder later in the year.

General theme (minor spoiler)
Set years in the future, the governing bodies of our dying Earth have discovered a distant planet (Exilon 5) that will support human life... the problem is that there's an alien life form already living and thriving on this world. Unfortunately the Earth's leader(s) have decided to take a hostile and aggressive attitude towards the occupants rather than explore a workable co-existence. This second book continues to follow several characters from both sides as relations continue to deteriorate.
Some thoughts on "Altered Reality"...
1.) an intriguing tale from the future.
2.) most encounters were tense and exciting affairs, and by and large featured the best writing in this second book.
3.) I thought the story written around the DNA manipulation was very interesting and well done.
1a.) several scenes seemed to have little bearing on the main story... two examples would be the chapters with Susan and her avatar, and another with Susan and Annie. Now maybe these two supporting characters will return in the third book and justify their introduction in this book... at present these areas simply seemed like 'fill'.
1b.) Laura's extreme reaction upon arrival to Exilon 5 that bordered on the incredulous... at least incredulous (to me) when the reason for it was eventually stated.
2.) sustained dialogues were this book's weakest areas... to me, many felt forced and contrived.
3.) I thought the villain of this book, Charles Deighton, was just so over the top, especially for a person considered a main leader. He seemed more like a Superheroes' nemesis... so powerful, (but in an annoying, immature kind of way), his character didn't seem to be remotely believable or real.
4.) while the plot had potential, there were just too many clandestine events that succeeded only because the authorities failed to observe or pick-up on some obvious irregularities. These were basically plot holes that were almost impossible to cover up and from a reader point of view, hard to ignore.
I liked the first book a lot... this second book less so. Overall the action scenes were well done but passages with substantial dialogue were weak and had room for improvement.
As it is... 2 1/2 Stars.
Unfortunately, people being people, the population of Exilon 5 has already started to deplete the resources on their new home. Unwilling to let the human species die out, the World Government has invested a lot of time and money into helping humans adapt to their new home. These experiments have produced an entirely new species called indigenes. These advanced people with psychic abilities and super human senses have taken to the caves of Exilon 5 and created their own peaceful community. Now the World Government wants to wipe out the original indigenes and create an even more advance species. Humans Bill Taggart and Laura O’Halloran along with indigene Stephen are teaming up to uncover the secrets that the government is trying to hide from the population.
The nefarious plans of the government are slowly hinted at throughout the book, leaving the reader wondering what’s going to be revealed next. Author Eliza Green has crafted a complex story that addresses multiple themes, from the ethics of genetic alterations, to government manipulations, overconsumption of resources and the importance of protecting our humanity while the world is disintegrating.
Green has done a lovely job of creating a new species of beings that are likeable and intriguing. The indigenes are fascinating creatures that I quickly became invested in. The irony of the World Government attempting to biologically advance the human race even as the indigenes battle their own physiological progress was not lost on me. In fact, it’s a little comical in a slightly twisted way.
Altered Reality is book two in The Exilon 5 series. It could be read as a standalone book, but I would strongly encourage you to start with Becoming Human so that you can experience all of the mystery and surprises on your own. Overall Altered Reality is an entertaining read for fans of science fiction. Green’s world building and government scheming will keep many readers’ interest peaked as they explore the futuristic landscape of Exilon 5 and Earth.
